Think that is a POV based on application...

People will almost always be better off with a CMR as a generality, but the negative attributes of SMR can be essentially invisible to people that write once, read many if I understand correctly.

HAMR, don't understand that well enough yet, anyone have a concise executive summery between the various brand iterations of heat assisted writing, and what the Pros/Cons are VS CMR or how it similar/different with SMR?

I would have agreed that HAMR is being used only on drives 30TB and larger but it also seems like they are starting to come in the 16TB and 20TB Barracuda models as well (based on reports from various posters that have shucked the recent FP deals on the Seagate Expansion drives). People, including myself, are speculating these are binned 30TB+ drives that have platters disabled so the drives can still be sold and isn't as much of a loss.
Those Barracudas seem to have the "Class 1 consumer laser product" info on the label which I've only seen come on the IronWolf drives that use HAMR technology.

This is pretty much spot on. SMR is fine if you're looking for something for storing media or writing backups to. You wouldn't want to use it in a NAS.

My drive had a piece of tape and Taiwanese paper saying QC checked and the drive had like 16 hours on it when i checked it. I never seen this before in my life

I haven't seen it get close to 5 Gbps, but I've seen sustained writes at 225-250 MB/s.

As you've alluded, it's an unusual cable for a 3.5-in enclosure, but the interface/cable are NOT a limiting factor - the drive is.

Check your invoices. I ordered 3, it clearly showed 3 x $279.99 at checkout and in the cart but I was charged at 1x $279.99 and 2 x $329.99!

And now that I notice, if you go to the site and go to checkout with 3 in the cart, it will show 3 x $279.99, but the total actually adds up differently with two being $329.99.

Either website error or price deception.

Thanks for pointing this out. It does show different prices once you change the quantity so I suppose it's one per customer at the $280 price.
