Glad I held off on the 20TB. +4TB and EXOS for $40 is worth it. Backblaze doesn't have reliability data for the EXOS X24 but these aren't the mainstream drives that have broken a lot of your hearts. USB 3.0 not a real big concern for incremental NAS backups. Pulled the trigger, shipping was free.

edit: I will buy two now because you did a thumbs down on me 😸

If this is truly an EXOS drive, it's a great deal.

So excuse my ignorance but if I wanted this for an internal drive I could just buy it and rip the 7200RPM drive out and its basically ready for use (I presume that's what they meant earlier when asking if it was shuckable)? But I'm guessing the downside is it wouldn't have a warranty when used in this manner, but who tf wants an external HDD that uses such an old cable to connect lol...

You've got it. Often times shucked drives are cheaper in the long run, especially if you need a dozen drives, by simply self-insuring with an additional cold spare to offset the warranty loss.

Can confirm, average the same filling it up recently.

Note that others reported theirs got quite hot though. I anticipated this and put it on top of my gaming PC for the transfer which has top exhaust 120's, and it kept the drive nice and cool.

I bought the 20TB and returned it. Storage wise the drive is good bang for your buck but I had a few issues that made me return it. I didn't like the connector to the drive and usb 3.0 and also the power supply with has all international style prongs. Also it's a very loud drive.

I was just about to shuck the 20tb one after testing it for a few days, so would also be curious about any reports of it being SMR. I feel like I've combed through every conversation about that drive I could find and while there wasn't anything definitive, I don't recall anything about it being SMR.

I don't have any of these drives but I have followed the discussions about them. I haven't seen any reports of them being SMR. I suspect the other poster is either confusing HAMR with SMR or assuming the Barracuda branding means it's SMR.

Based on recent history, do people think the "more consumer friendly" and flexible retailers will match prices shipped before this option is over?

The b&h terms and conditions don't seem very fast or trouble free should a replacement be needed or there is some issue...

Biased to WD also, had Many different sizes and brands over many years, only ever had seagate drives die on me...but willing to give them another shot at the price per TB for large single drives based on people saying they are essentially statistically equally reliable currently.
