Also, the poster is newish so might not know this, but "$ off" or "% off" posts aren't done here because they're not useful. It doesn't mean anything, and those offers are often deceptive.

At least one of the prices should be in the title and in the post. So it may be how the post was done, and the fact that it wasted a lot of peoples time, as much as this specific deal

I used deluxe with a home based business and also buying & selling stock.
TT Deluxe may tell you while entering info you should upgrade to Premier. Just ignore and proceed with Deluxe

This Costco offer for TurboTax Deluxe + State at $45 ($56-$11) is essentially the same as the Amazon offer in the link from last year but includes a $10 TurboTax credit (e.g. to e-file state taxes) instead of a $10 gift card.

How much you want to bet that Amazon posts its sale the day Costco's offer goes live.

What do you use the $10 in-app credit for? I wouldn't use it for state filing, as I always just do my state taxes there, export it to PDF, and mail it in for the cost of a manilla envelope. I'd never pay them $30 to file when envelope + postage is like $1.50.
Any other things to use the $10 credit for?

I used to do this too, for decades. Then USPS lost my return one year, that was fun.

Why do this? costco deal is cheaper by $5 unless you dont use the $10 credit. Or just wait for amazon to PM costco tomorrow

It's a fair bit more complicated than just cap gains and losses. You also have to account for the ESPP discount (often 15%) that the employers typically offer. That discount is treated as ordinary income when you sell the shares. Both Chase and Wells Fargo CCs offering $20 back for TT purchase over $39. If someone needs to buy additional state or pay filing fees too, use respective cards to save an extra $40.

I'm certain Amazon will PM Costco on the sticker price, but will they do anything about that in-app $10 credit? I'll definitely check with Amazon before I buy the Costco one to see if they address that with a giftcard or something. I prefer to buy from Amazon each year, just to have all my annual turbotax purchases in my digital history all on one site. I don't have to have that, but I prefer it that way when possible. But if Amazon doesn't match that extra $10 credit, I'll probably buy from Costco.

This is not the same. I used to mail my state taxes too, but to do it right (as in, avoid potential problems like return being lost and the subsequent issues with the state treasury would happen), that involves going to the post office and then getting tracking and certified mail. It adds up to like $6-7, so it's technically cheaper than e-filing via TT, assuming you do not value your time. If you do, than the 30 or so minutes visit to the post office makes e-filing pretty logical IMO.

You don't have to pay for certified mail just to get tracking. It's like a $2-$2.50 add on unless USPS changed something. And most of the time you don't even need tracking. Just keep your receipt proving that you mailed stuff. You are either getting a refund or you're paying extra. If your check isn't cashed after a couple of weeks then maybe stuff got lost. Refunds may take longer though. Governments don't like giving money back.
