I finished Deadwood. I finally figured out what swidgen means but it took me the whole series to do it. It's pretty funny now that I know. There were some things that worked and some things that didn't but overall it was a great series and I didn't want it to end. There was a lot to deal with in the last show. Can't talk about it without spoiling it.

Ian McShane's performance as Al Swearengen in Deadwood was brilliant. It might be the best acting performance in a tv series that I've ever seen. Brian Cox as Logan Roy in Succession was up there, too. Brian Cox was also in Deadwood but the show was cancelled before his character got going. Who is your favorite actor in a tv series?

OMG, I was looking online at where Deadwood was filmed and I think I know where the town is. I've been there. That was years ago before the show was made. There was a western town set up in a valley below the windy mountain road. What a trip.

Yep, I was right. It's the Melody Ranch in Placerita Canyon.

I have been in Target exactly one time in the last three years. I wouldn't have gone in when I did, except I've had some gift cards I needed to use up and DH needed some new men's briefs. I still have about $30 I need to use, so I will go back to do that. I will do my best not to spend new money there though. Why? Their response to DEI and the way they dropped support of LGBTQ+ like a hot potato as soon as the new regime began. Plenty of other places I can support.
I was participating in some financial blackout days and store boycotts earlier in the year, but I haven't seen anything about those lately. I don't know if I am out of the loop or if the boycotts lost steam. (There were some Target boycotts for the reasons schnauzermomma mentioned.)

If anybody has information on boycotts being planned, please let me know. I know we all love shopping, but I still feel boycotts are one of the best ways to make a point.

I looked up the worst retail companies to work for and AI came up with Dollar General, Family Dollar, and Dollar Tree. Also on the list are Whole Foods, McDonald's, Starbucks, Walmart, and Burger King. I'm not against a boycott of Target but I don't know why you wouldn't also boycott Walmart because employees are less satisfied working at Walmart than Target. It's interesting that CVS wasn't on the list. I always hear how bad it is to work at CVS but then the cashier will tell me that she's making $30 an hour so I wonder how bad can it really be...

I think Walmart was one of the places to boycott. I think there was a no shopping at Walmart week but I'm not sure.

You are right about Target probably being better for workers and for the community than Walmart. I got the impression that voters/the normal public/people were more disappointed with Target than with Walmart because they always knew Walmart wasn't a great company. Target gave the impression that they were very progressive and supportive of diversity and then capitulated to Trump so easily. I could be wrong, but that's what I thought.

I know I have it easy as an East Coast Liberal. There are plenty of grocery stores so we don't do our grocery shopping at Walmart or Target. And everything is so close together that if you don't like one place you just go to another. When the kids were younger we were always in Target for toys and to look around. Sometimes my husband goes to Walmart for automotive stuff. But generally, we don't go to either very much anymore.

As for the dollar stores (Dollar Tree, Family Dollar, Dollar General)...I never used to go. I didn't understand the stores (didn't realize they were chains and had heard those news stories about fake toothpaste in dollar stores and just generally avoided them). Husband encouraged me to check them out and they are easy sometimes. Also Dollar General and Dollar Tree are the only places I can find the cat litter I like anymore (cheaper store brand where the pieces are a little bit bigger and less dusty, 20 lb. bag), so there is that.

So yes, I totally get your points, but I still think boycotts are the way to go.

To the best of my knowledge, the boycotts were never about how the retail companies treat their employees.

Other than an all store boycott on July 4th, I don't think there are any specific dates scheduled. Organizers did call for a permanent boycott of Target, I think for the exact reasons you mentioned. The last I read up on it, the boycotts have had a negative impact on Target.

So many stores are not great for a variety of reasons, so I have decided I just have to do what I have to do to save what I can for my family.

I'm not against boycotts. My thing is discrimination against older people. 75% of Ibotta use is with people 35 and under which leaves a lot of older people who have difficulty with technology out in the cold. I try not to buy from companies that have a lot of Ibotta offers. Unilever (Dove) and Henkel (Persil) are the worst offenders I've found so I'll only buy their products if I absolutely have to. I have to admit that I bought Dove Whole Body deodorant at CVS last week because it was free even without doing the Fetch offer so I'm not very good at my boycotts.

I rarely eat fast food anymore because of the app stuff. Why can't I just go there without my phone and get the deal? I have poor eyesight and neuropathy in my hands. Phones aren't much fun for me. I hate that everything depends on the phone. I'd like to be able to get the deal by just going there. If I can't get the deal, I'll go to the grocery store instead. This is my boycott.

With Target, I almost always have a bad experience so I hardly ever go there. I did two Huggies baby wipes deals last year (because Target was so much cheaper than everybody else) so I have $60 in Target gift cards that I need to spend. I decided to use my $60 on things I need that Target has the lowest price on like generic baby aspirin, extra strength acetaminophen, and acid reflux medicine. I don't shop at Target for groceries or big ticket items.

The People's Union USA has also boycotted Walmart, Amazon, Nestle, and General Mills for the same reason as Target. If you're going to boycott Target, you should also stop doing business with Walmart, Amazon, Nestle, and General Mills. Otherwise, you're making Target the scapegoat but accomplishing nothing.

This isn't a hard boycott for me. I do minimal business with Target and Walmart and no business with Amazon and Nestle. The only General Mills product that I've bought this year is Nature Valley but only a few packages.

More bad health so I've been binge watching Chernobyl on Max all day. It's excellent but also very frightening. Highly recommended.

Edit: I just finished it. One of the best things that I've ever seen. Totally heartbreaking.

FabPickle and S'momma, I agree with both of you. Yes, it is more difficult for older people and people without cars. I tried to do the rebate apps but I didn't stick with it, but that's my fault. Our two local grocery stores have added free-standing kiosk type things with a computer screen, so you can load your coupons without using a smartphone.

Burger King still sends out a sheet of coupons in the Thursday flyers in this area. Those coupons tend to be better than the app deals, but I don't know if they accept them at all Burger Kings. I personally boycott Amazon, but not because I hate them or anything. I just don't like that they have a monopoly on almost everything now. So I just don't use them.

I didn't know about the July 4th shopping blackout but I will participate! I agree though, at this point we do have to look out for our own families, friends, and communities. And cats. I might not love Dollar General and Family Dollar, but they have the cat litter I want! It is a balance.

Have you ever noticed how Tide is orange because of the sun and Gain is green because of money? It could also be grass but I'm thinking that since it's called Gain, it's money.

Have you ever tried World's Best cat litter? I think their pieces are large.

I watched Greenland last night. It was an action packed end-of-the-world movie until the last 5 minutes when a comet hit the director's brain and he went with the feel good ending. He didn't have the balls to go with the ending he had set up with the little kid and white light. I'd still recommend the movie but skip the last 5 minutes and have it end the way you think it should. It's too bad because this could've been a great movie. Not everybody needs sugar in their coffee.
