These are not shitty shingle SMR drives. SMR write speed is less than 80 MB/s. People are reporting 200 MB/s for these seagate drives.

I bought two last time this was on sale and shucked them into my nas. I ran a stress test and secure wiped them followed by a extended smart test, both ran it fine without issues. Temps were good for me, lower than my wd reds

That's literally EVERY thread on SD. Most of the content is just two factions trying to prove the other is wrong. If you don't believe me, head on over to the recent lululemon jogger thread, same thing, different product.

Anyway, that's why using a strong sense of filtration and due diligence helps with these comments. Once in a while you get a good nugget of info/wisdom which makes it worth the effort if you actually need said item.

I shucked one of these drives into my NAS and it literally just died on the 17, Seagate drives aren't great. Dont take my word, sites like backblaze issues reports on failures. https://www.backblaze.com/cloud-s...-test-data
Also After I shucked it I was using the enclosure for an old WD 2tb and out of nowhere the light on the enclosure stop working and the Enclosure also is useless.

Yes it's not enterprise grade specs nor is made to be raid.

If you want CMR the 24TB is a exo x 24 enterprise rated

I run over 100 enterprise grade WD and seagate hdds
Power on time over 3 years and own mostly seagate enterprise exos 18 to 24TB and all run beautifully . Only one died after it was damaged in transit

Backblaze is a old report where SMR drives 2TB to 8TB were absolute trash this was over decade ago.
Seagate is now making 20TB SMR drives with the barracuda name. These drives are absolute trash.

Big data centers are already buying up seagate HAMR drives 28 to 30TB
This technology was protyped over 20 years ago and was theorized in 1953.

Even WD is moving to HAMR which was invented by seagate or bought the rights to the technology.
Invest your money in the 24TB recently a FP deal at B&H photo is a CMR enterprise grade HDD .

You can expect those transfer rates on a brand new / clean SMR drive. The issue is that SMR drives slow down dramatically when you are re-writing data (e.g. random writes on the drive as opposed to sequential writes to unused space on the drive).

SMR drives have their place, and that's for write-once, read-many type applications (such as persistent backups).
