I can also take a photo and upload it if needed. it's a crap smr barracuda best buy bought huge lots of these at a cheap price through seagate. hence why the huge price decrease. The 22 and 24 TB thankfully are CMR still or maybe you get old stock 20TB and get the exo x20 which is CMR.
Yes, please post a photo if you can. I'm curious to see this Barrcuda drive you're talking about.

These SMR drives not CMR . Complete garbage, you don't want these in a raid
This is annoying to the point of absurdity. You have been directly asked at least 5 times. Please provide evidence of your statement that it is an SMR drive inside.

Why is it whenever a Seagate deal is posted there's basically two types of comments? That the drives are fine with good temps, speeds, and reliability and that Seagate is the literal devil and will sell you a brick (not a bricked drivean actual brick) and then burn your house down when you try to ask for a new one.
I think it depends on how users are treating their drives. Seagate is a large manufacturer and we all know complainers tend to report issues more than non-complainers.

today's drive packaging makes them look and feel much more robust than they really are. In days of old, you'd worried that your HHD isn't sitting on level surface or you move it while it's on. Imagine a little head just micron above a hard spinning surface, too much vibration and you get a head crash. Now, imagine multiple heads on these surfaces (platters).

Oh heck, I've even moved my 2.5" external drives while thy are running (although 2.5" are more robust in this regard than 3.5").

Thanks for your real world experience. I worked in IT before the days of data centers and NAS units. Our biggest concern was whether to go with clones for the two big platforms of our time. Drives back then were under 80 MB and when the drives parked its head you heard it if you were anywhere within the room. The days of MFM and IDE drives warmed the room too.
Bought some used seagate drives off ebay that were taken out of data centers at year 4 for my ugreen NAS. Running for 5 months with no problems.
This is the exact post i have provided proof to people here yet they refuse to listen

Someone with real world experience about seagate Exos.

I run two unraid servers , and 2 true nas core servers over 1 PiB and Seagate Enterprise Sata drives are CMR which are highly reputable.

This Best buy external will most likely come with a 20TB SMR Barracuda.

Not worth 240.00! Get the 24TB it is a EXOs CMR enterprise rated drive

1. I am not making statements that require evidence, YOU ARE.

2. Your reddit link does not offer any significant information and does not come from the drive that you claim to have purchased which you stated was SMR.

To be fair with all of the down votes, I believe no one came up with a definitive answer as to what was in it and some googled that these were related to the 30-32TB HMR or EXOS SMR drives, but potentially with those features turned off. To my knowledge, no one provided reasonable information as to what is really inside, but a few of you went with what you wanted it to be.
It is highly likely hamr. Higher noise, higher heat, and higher energy usage.

Smr would have lots of stalls after almost full. But we don't hear... my drives stop working comment.
