Website experience is so bad with all of the ads. I'll just wait for it in the mail. Last time I go to Costcosinsider

How do these guys always manage to make a worse experience for browsing an album of images? Before you had to click the random text on the page which would sometimes load the images, now you have to click "next" 20 times because they don't even show all images on one page anymore. I think Costco Insider should just be banned...

Costco used to be a great store, but the sales are so pathetic now
their sale prices seem like their regular prices from 3 years ago... Inflation?

I joined Costco because they had a good price on a TV, my friends really like Costco, and the membership worked out to be about $20 with the discounts. Now, I keep trying to find any reasons drive an extra twenty minutes to go there. So far the inexpensive cooked hot chicken and the cheap huge pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving are the only real bargains I have found so far. I typically make my list of local deals online and then go to the close by stores for those items. Costco doesn't tell me any prices to compare online, they don't give me prices in their ads, they don't even tell me the price of gas unless I sit in line for the pump (no sign). The gas price is usually the same as a station a block from my house and the couple of times I wandered around the store the prices appear to be a little higher than sale prices at the other discount stores I usually visit. I am not willing to take my shopping list from other stores and wander all over Costco just to compare prices or stand there in the store to just look up prices on line at the other stores. My friends tell me Costco sells things like name brand paper towels for not much more than store brands towels at discount stores but the store brands work fine for me and I don't have to buy a lifetime supply (pallet full) at a time. Sure I can probably save hundreds of dollars on some kind of furniture but I don't know how much it originally costs or why I would need it in the first place. A friend did say check on a car battery prices but I ended up getting a better deal at Walmart and they had a full three warranty like Costco HAD until they changed it to pro rated. Costco also doesn't accept my Visa card that gives me cash back.

Am I missing something? Can someone tell me how to compare Costco prices or find good deals on basic items?

Just like so many other things, many companies have created brands with a competitive edge that people became accustomed to. Toyota for example is associated with high reliability. Hugo Boss... High priced fashion from Germany that makes you look like a successful person. Costco... The place you can almost guarantee to not have to spend additional time driving to other stores or shop around and be certain every item you place in your cart is going to be cheaper. All of these examples have evolved since... They've slowly made changes at a pace most consumers won't notice. Consumers associate a brand with something and will continue to buy based on the brand. That Hugo Boss T shirt that cost way more than a Hanes one was because you paid labor for it to be made in Germany. Now it's made in Pakistan for pennies on the dollar and most people don't notice and now only pay to fund the brand's execs for creating a crafty business. But that's just what it is... Business. Unless some other competitor can come in and knock Costco off it's rails (will take a while considering many of America's Corps continue to conglomerate and become huge). Consumers have limited options and most just accept.

Man so many whiners in every single Costco thread. If it's so bad, why not just quit? Costco will even refund the cost of your membership.

Costco coupon book gone dawn hill for a while now. I Like the store but not sure if the value is there specifically for the executive membership not worth it anymore.
What does the quality of discounts have anything to do with executive membership? It's all about your annual spend that should dictate if the executive membership is worth it or not. You get the same coupon discounts regardless of the membership tier.

The normal prices are far better than ANY supermarket. These coupons are just an added bonus.

It's all bluffing. They know that Costco's normal prices are still the best deal.

I agree. After shopping at Costco for so long, I get sticker shock at regular grocery markets.

Just look at the unit price and compare it to whatever store you shop at. Almost everything will be cheaper at Costco. Sam's Club is about the same. Walmart can sometimes be cheaper.

Thanks and repped. Need to get those Bounty kitchen rolls this time as I feel Kirkland has reduced their kitchen towels quality.
Really? They seem the same to me.

Maybe in your area, but in my area Costco prices aren't as competitive as they used to be. I live in an area with many different grocery stores, so there is a lot of competition. Also, product prices at Costco can vary by location.
