Good deal. MSRP for a new F3800 is $4,598. Refurb price of $1,975 is roughly 57% off. Sold by Anker Outlet with a 2 year warranty. Seems low risk for a high discount.

Anker has a solid reputation. F3800 has great specifications, including 120/240v capability. With the correct generator hookup for the circuit breaker box, the F3800 could power an entire house. Add an inexpensive (under $600) propane generator capable of delivering 1,800 watts to recharge the F3800, and you could be very comfortable during the next power failure...

refurb not qualify for 30% tax credit. also, this price $1975 should be for brand new, not refurb. more like $1500 + tax a good price for refurb. refurb was $1879 recently at wellbots, with no tax.

also, i prefer the delta pro 3 brand new for comparable price. the delta 3 pro is superior in most ways, except for a less powerful inverter.

The Ecoflow Delta Pro 3 competes directly with the Anker F3800. The Pro 3 has excellent specs. Completely respect anyone able to buy the Delta Pro 3 brand new from a reputable site for $2k with a 5 year warranty.

For me, the Anker F3800 would be a better choice, even if the cost and warranty were equal. I have 240v electric stove. And a review commented the 4000w Pro 3 had trouble vs the 6000W F3800 (no trouble) running an electric stove. Based on a review from "thesolarlab.com"

https://www.thesolarlab.com/revie...nker-f3800
https://youtu.be/TwPZNdq5XC0

For anyone that simply needs to keep the heat and lights on, and cook hot meals when a winter storm knocks the power out for multiple days, the best solution is probably something like a 120v/240v DuroMax Dual Fuel Gas Propane Generator. They're relatively inexpensive, and extremely reliable if you stick to propane instead of gasoline...

yes, in a direct comparison delta pro 3, vs. f3800, the key advantage of the anker is the 6000w inverter as compared to the 4000w for the ecoflow, although it has a little headroom and can do around 4500w. with 4000w one should be able to run at least one or two of the smaller burners on an electric cooktop, but perhaps not the largest burners on high, or several at once.

240v electric cooktops and 240v electric dryers consume so many watts and run for so long, i'm not sure why one would want to use them with a power station off-grid. it would drain your power station / pv (solar) / battery bank very quickly.

the anker f3800 will run a 240v cooktop for like what...30-40 minutes tops? then your anker power station is completely drained just to cook one meal.

what you do (if you do not have a gas range/stove) is just use a propane bbq to cook with, and occasionally a microwave, air fryer, and griddle for short periods. or one of those smaller portable induction cooktops which do not require 240v.

a few of the main disadvantages of the anker f3800 is the gimped solar input capability, the inability to use the 240v while charging via AC, no 240v input (only output), etc.

the ecoflow does 240v output while charging via AC, has like 6000w charging with 240v input, and with an adapter cable you can even charge it at 6000 watts at an ev charging station. also ecoflow offers the 800w alternator charger, which is useful to charge faster using your car.

i don't own a power station, so i'm not shilling for either brand, but i'm looking to buy one soon, now that prices have plummeted and the features are rapidly evolving.

when we had the bomb cyclone here a a couple months back, we were without power for just over 5 days straight. others got their power back earlier, and there were ev charging stations available. with the ecoflow, one could lug (yeah, these 240v models are heavy) the ecoflow in the trunk of the car to the ev charging station, and rapidly recharge it in less than an hour. or, if you have friends and family not too far away who do have power, you could take the ecoflow to their house and plug it into their dryer outlet and rapidly recharge it at several thousand watts. then take it back home and run your house.

you could use the alternator charger with your car idling and charge it enough to keep it going with smaller loads as well.

yes, the anker f3800 has a larger inverter (6000w vs. 4000w), but with a battery capacity of only 3.8kwh, that won't even last 45 minutes before the battery dies.

who needs to run their 240v electric cooktop or their 240v electric dryer during an emergency?

in an emergency outage, my main needs are: first and foremost, power the gas furnace + fan to heat the house, run some led lights, router for internet, tv, avr and dvr, charge laptops and devices, and use the microwave, air fryer and griddle. not much need to run 240v output at more than 4000w for me. you can always later add a second delta pro 3 with the 50 amp hub, for 8000 watts inverter output.

same price, i'm taking delta pro 3 over f3800 every time. the delta pro 3 was $1906 brand new just last week, better than the price of this f3800 refurb.

brand new for $1500-ish, i would bite on the anker, but not for $2000. that is unless one has had a bad experience with ecoflow, and refuses to buy their products. then i could see going with the anker or the jackery, or something else.

Nice write up. Lots of good points. Thanks!

I live in New England. When a winter Nor'easter rolls thru and drops trees on the power lines and covers roofs with snow and ice, and clouds aren't going away, I'm not relying on solar to heat the house and keep the water pipes from freezing/bursting. I hook up a DuroMax XP10000EH, using the 120/240V 30A socket to the circuit breaker panel to provide power to every room in the house. Nothing has ever tripped the generator circuit breaker, including the electric stove. The generator is basically ideling until the 240v devices turn on.I don't run the generator continously, and use about (1) 20lb bottle of propane per day. It's a low cost & effective solution for my needs...

I love the idea of solar and free energy, but view these Anker & Ecoflow battery generators as something that supplements the commercial power grid. They could help reduce my energy bill. But I'd still want a propane generator for power outages on below freezing cloudy days ;-)

My generator has both 30 and 50 amp outlets. A visual scan shows the electrician installed equipment meeting the NEMA L14-30 (30 amp) specification. Major components:
- Reliance PC340 Power cord from propane generator to power inlet box ($120 on Amazon)
- Reliance Controls PBN30 30-Amp NEMA 3R Power Inlet Box ($57 on Amazon)
- Square D HOMCGK2C Homeline Cover Generator and Breaker Interlock Kit ($82 at Lowes)
Plus 2 circuit breakers, a 6" metal conduit from the Inlet box to the Main Circuit Breaker box, and miscellaneous wiring from the Inlet box to the new circuit breakers.

I believe this setup would work well with the Anker and Ecoflow 120/240V outlets. But you should probably check with an expert...

Sure, I completely understand. I got through the bomb cyclone with a quiet Honda inverter-generator. Ran the furnace for heat, kept two full size fridges and a freezer cold, microwave, air fryer, router, TV, etc. (not all at once). I had to juggle some extension cords and power strips.

The main panel in the house is nearly 60 years old and needs replacing badly, and there is no possibility or room to add a generator inlet box, but that is the goal, to soon upgrade to a 200 amp main panel with inlet box (with interlock) or transfer switch.

Usually when we have major wind storms that knock out the power, they are in December-January, when there is not a lot of sunlight and cloudy weather in the Pac NW.

If I am going to invest in a serious solar generator/power station + battery bank, I might as well get some solar to fill it back up, so I recently purchased a pallet (36) of brand new 405W bi-facial solar panels (~15 kw) for half-off in a deal ($56 a panel).

I found a deal on a Victron solar charge controller, but I have yet to buy a 48V battery bank and get it all up and running. I have a few 12V inverters but have no 48V inverters.

Of course I could just buy one of these portable power stations and plug in some panels right away, but I am waiting for the right moment to strike.

I expect people would fully charge the Anker or Ecoflow before a storm from a standard 120v 15 amp wall outlet. And if you don't have solar available during an extended power outage (due to clouds or panel damage), you could unplug the Anker or Ecoflow from the wall, and into a cheap 2000 watt generator with a 120v 15 amp outlet for recharging :-)

does anyone know if you have to use the Anker SOLIX Smart Home Power Panel with this to connect to the house or can you just connect via any brand sub panel/transfer?

You can use any sub/transfer switch. I have mine connected to a old Generac transfer switch with has a 30 amp input. I installed a 30 amp inlet in the garage and ran some 6/3 armor clad to the transfer switch (You can definitely use 10 guage wire btw for 30 amp. I just had some 6/3 sitting around). Thinking about adding some cheapo rack batteries for expansion instead of their expensive bp3800. For longer outages I also have a wen 4000 inverter generator and 8750 inverter generator that I can plug to an exterior 30 amp inlet.

Mind if I ask what 30% tax credit that you're referring to? Is that regional or federal, or is this like the ones for EV charger?

it's federal. there may be extra state or local credits depending on state.
https://www.energystar.gov/about/...ax-credits

here are the tax forms
https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/about-form-5695

for the federal credit, minimum battery storage must be 3 kwh. this anker is 3.8 kwh, so it meets the minimum and qualifies for the 30% credit. the tax form says it must be a new installation, so refurbs likely will not qualify.
