Someone mentioned toroidal power supply. I could not determine if it does or not. If it does, thats great.
It's definitely more money in Yamaha's pocket. Lots of licenses costs are avoided on this unit.
At the end of the day it's most likely a quality unit. Hard to tell without actual measurements. The audio reproduction world is the progenitor of unverified unqualified hype. People 'hear' whatever they want to hear.
It's your money. If you like it , get it but it's not necessarily an upgrade over a quality integrated from Denon, Yamaha, and so many others.
And it's only a 'deal' compared to its msrp and post covid markups. My unsubstantiated opinion is that it's not selling well and will continue to be discounted until it's liquidated.

This has pre-outs and a subwoofer output. All 3 are full range.
This really opens up the options for some users.
Including=
The stereo pre-outs allow for multiple subs.
The stereo pre outs also allow for using an external parametric EQ/DSP/miniDSP/crossover/Bass Management Device. You send the signal out the stereo preamp into the PEQ/DSP/miniDSP/crossover/Bass Management device and then back into the receiver again.
There are pre-amps or streaming devices or Sonos type set-ups that do what you want.
Maybe you like the retro looks here or someday want to power passive speakers? I guess you can use this for what you want but this is ultimately mainly meant for powering passive stereo speakers in an old school 2.0 or 2.x audio HiFi system.
You sure this is the product for you?

For anyone that ordered it off last deal at $819, you can go into your order on Best Buy website and do the price adjustment very easily.
I have mine in the living room connected to two vintage Klipsch speakers. Sounded good out of the best, but after using YPAO I found the sound the be phenomenal. I use optical from the TV if I'm doing a movie and then use Spotify from my phone for music. What's cool to me is that if you use Spotify, once you set your playlist up you can close the app on your phone and music will keep playing. You can switch songs and all that with the Yamaha remote. I haven't cranked it up nearly all the way yet, but I've had it very loud and it stays crystal clear the whole way. I had replaced a vintage Pioneer amp for this…really only did it so I could cast music from phone and because I wanted a remote. 10/10 for me!!! Great purchase for anyone on the fence.
5.1 is for immersive movie experience; 2.0 is for music.
Music is always uni-directional, deliverd to you in stereo, via left and right ear; so 2-speaker setup approximates that. Ditto for headphones.
And yes, some will listen to music via surround - I do that sometimes too - but it never sounds 'quite right' even if it sounds 'cool' or 'good'.
