What's the benefit of a 2 stage blower over a single stage like this?

I believe this snowblower is at Amazon [amazon.com] for $525 (shipped from and sold by Amazon.com). Amazon hasn't price matched yet.

Second clears the chute. This works pretty well most of the time but if slushy ICEE snow it barely even clears the chute let alone throwing. Now there are 3-stage throwers that pull into the chute and an auger to go up.

This appears to be the better/newer model with the metal and rubber blade vs. the craptastic plastic Gen 1.

I own this and it's pretty good. I live in northeast Ohio and I've used it 3x this year already.

I bought this for $400 with two batteries and a leaf blower from a previous Best Buy deal that was posted on Slickdeals back in late 2023. We LOVE it. Its not super powerful like a stage 2, but its mighty enough to have handled a few smaller storms and the recent 7 incher in NJ with no problem. We've seen neighbors use their stage 2 and they fly through their driveway. This one takes me a tad longer than them (5 extra minutes...if that), but the end result is the same and I don't have to worry about oil/gas/spark plugs, let alone the savings from not spending over $1k. I highly recommend it (and the leaf blower if you can find that too)

It's only good for snow under 3 inches. Anything more the snow always gets stuck in the hole. Icy snow forget about it, it can only blow soft snow.

I have the plastic one, works well for what it is. I miss having the metal/rubber flapper of my Toro, like this one has. But this one also has reviews with durability issues. Tempting at this price.
