It's bad when I buy so many kobalt tools on sale I'm not sure if I already have this sitting in its box in my garage. Gonna buy it just to be safe though.

I just got the last one in stock at my local store. If you go to a store and there is one in stock (mine was not on the floor but up above) , let them know that this item is "inactive" to get the reduced price. It will ring up at 99.99 but you will have to state your case that it is available to pick up in store if available. Pickup in store is disabled when trying to order and that is why you need to let them know that the item is "inactive."

New homeowner / DIY-er.
What is the purpose of this tool? Reviews mention cutting drywall, but I recently purchased an oscillating multi-tool for that purpose. What am I missing?

unless , the oscillating tool comes with a blade curved like a spoon, - and I'm not talking those half moon blades - with these you can buy a circle cutter that attaches, and drill a single center hole in drywall and rotate the circle cutter attached to this tool and cut a perfect round hole. I just did that to install some LED flush mount lights.

I bought this, without having any power tool usage experience at all. I saw this is specific for dry wall. What can I use it for exactly, as a homeowner?

Cutting holes in your dry wall ie for fixtures or making squares to patch holes too big for patch kits.

high RPM=faster cleaner cut.
Design= better control for complicated cuts control depth= not to cut other stuff in wall
It's basically a rotary tool. I use mine to cut ugly hole into plywood
But as you said, a multi-tool works just fine.

This tool has very limited usage, in my opinion, as it designs to cut drywall only. I can see a scenario when you need to cut a round hole in the drywall that this tool can be an ideal equipment to use but I can easily substitute with hand saw or reciprocating saw on that matter.

Even then if you're doing multiple ceiling lights it's easier to get the right size hole saw and do them with a drill. And that way you can use a dust catcher to make cleanup easier too.
