Today, I'm trying to trade in my Moto G Play 2023 from QVC, which is locked to Tracfone. I activated it, removed the SIM card, and performed a factory reset. After that, I accidentally discovered that the phone wouldn't let me pass the setup screen, stating that it was locked. I started to panic because yesterday, I did the same thing with a Tracfone Moto G Play 2024 that I bought from Walmart and shipped it out without a SIM card. At the time, I didn't realize that the phone wouldn't allow setup without a SIM card.

The phone without a SIM card is already on its way. Has anyone experienced this before? What are the chances it will pass inspection and be approved for trade-in?

That's a tricky question. If it can't even function in any capacity ie set up, then I doubt it'll be accepted

Why reset it? I just set it up and took SIM out and it was hunky dory at the store. I assume same if I'd shipped it in

I don't encourage this or endorse it, but you can just "upgrade" the same free line you have again

I'd stick the SIM in another phone so it looks in their system like you have another phone you're using atm, and go in and do the same trade in process

No need for another line. I'm tempted to do the same myself with the unlocked Pixel 9 I have. Have the S25 from this deal and another crappy phone to trade in. Will stick SIM from the S25 I'm now using in to the Pixel 9 again, go in and trade in the crappy phone and upgrade from my Pixel 9. Pull SIM back to my now daily driver s25 after

In 60 days, stick SIM back into the other s25 and get it unlocked

I believe S25 comes only with eSIM, without the physical SIM. So, just curious - how would you stick the SIM from S25 to another phone?

Interested in the answer too. Never tried QR code. I shipped my package with printed label, and USPS just says "moving to next station"

I've tried this in past. You just take it to UPS and they pack it for you. All you do is make video while they are doing so and you're good. Always better then USPS.

I did! With S25 to S25+, the total trade-in value is $1140, and you would get around $50 credit back. For S25 to S25 Ultra, you would pay $260 to $280, depending on tax rate.
Sounds good! Thank you!

I was an idiot and didnt leave the store after they said they didnt have any s25 in stock. They said they'd just ship the phones, but didnt say the trade in had to be shipped too. Went thru the whole process like a dummy.

Others have done it here. If I'm paying out right for it it should allow an upgrade.

People have upgraded, yes. But not on same day at same store right after getting the same one

Learn to be more considerate about deals and at least trying to have some decorum about them

It's not about if you can do it. It's whether you should

And no, it shouldn't allow for it right away. Is not the intention and you know it

Nooo. The first question to ask is if they have one in stock!

You can ask for a physical SIM card. They'll give you one

My Pixel 9 had only esim and they happily gave me physical SIM

But even if it is esim, it's no problem at all sticking esim in to phone at unlock time or when wanting to upgrade like I described. Just use Myspectrum app

I actually never ended up using the physical sim. Just went with esim still lol
