Does the 4th generation Tablo support ATSC 3.0 (aka NextGenTV)?
No. The tuners in the 4th generation Tablo support the ATSC 1.0 broadcast standard used by all major commercial broadcasts today and the Tablo device takes full advantage of it like never before. While ATSC 3.0 broadcasts are available in some markets, ATSC 1.0 broadcasts will continue through at least June 2027.

Homerun has an open interface which makes it compatible with other services/software such as Plex or Channels DVR. Both cost a monthly fee for DVR/guide features, I believe around $8. Plex also has the option of a lifetime pass. In any event both of these solutions require an always-on PC or NAS in addition to the HDHomerun device. That said, HDHomerun's interface is much faster than Tablo's.

It's possible, although not likely at this point in time. ATSC 3.0 still has issues with DRM (HDHomerun 4K devices can't decode all ATSC 3.0 stations in every market). Many markets, including Los Angeles and San Diego, don't have all networks in ATSC 3.0 yet (L.A. is missing ABC7, San Diego only has Fox5 and KUSI). Then there's the issue of compatible devices on the consumer's end - many TVs have built-in ATSC 1.0 tuners that are not capable of ATSC 3.0. Unless/until those issues of broadcasting and end-user hardware are not fully hashed out, it would appear that 2027 is not a hard deadline.

I own it and it's great I live 55 mi from the TV towers and with the proper antenna I get great reception and 151 channels - the DVR and the pre amp are a real Plus.

If you want to learn a lot about TV antennas and more info on this device go to YouTube and subscribe to the antenna man.

Same here. Terrain here in the greater L.A. / San Diego area is challenging but with dedicated VHF / UHF antennas I am pulling close to 150 channels from the L.A. market.

I also just installed a yagi attic antenna for the in-laws in the Providence RI area. All local networks come in at 100/100 (monitored with HDHomerun diagnostics) and they can't stop talking about how much clearer and sharper the picture quality is compared to YTTV.

Clearly this isn't for everyone, especially if you rely on ESPN/CNN/Fox News and the other cable channels for entertainment. But if you don't, this is a cheap and serious alternative with - IMHO - a great user interface that only needs stability improvements.

The 2-tuner can record one program while watching another. The 4-tuner could record up to 3 programs while watching another. There are also reports of the 4-tuner version changing channels more quickly, although that is not confirmed.

Thanks. I have 2 homerun devices, but took the antenna down to tent my house for termites. I used to use Windows Media to record off air, but now I have Plex and have yet to fully set it up. Maybe once it gets warm again, I will stick it back up. The antenna is getting old, but it looked to still be in pretty good shape.
