Heh. Yeah, it does look alarming however... Keep in mind that this is a STARTER can, meaning you're supposed to add other ingredients before eating. That listed sodium amount is for this concentrated stuff alone, before it's made into chili. The recommended recipe is to add diced tomatoes and ground beef. That means ½ a cup of this stuff may make 1-2 cups of chili (i can't do the math, look at recipe below). That lowers the amount of sodium per cup of cooked chili. I guess you can dilute it even more, per taste.

Here's the official recipe:
"Brown one pound of lean ground beef. Drain grease. Optional: Add 1 cup chopped onion. Add one 14.5 oz can diced tomato. Add one can Chili Magic. Stir. Cover and simmer 7-10 minutes."
