I haven't been on the market for an iPad in a while so I haven't followed the trends. Are the back to school sales better than this one? My kid will need one for next fall.

Base gen 9 64gb is the best for a kid. It can be found for less than $200 you don't have to wait for a sale. Don't think it's available at Apple. Their edu discount is usually just a $100 gift card.

Oh the price of the 9th gen went up. See if you can find a 10th gen 64 for around $200 between now and back to school sales. Prices should drop if the 11th gen is released in march.

Maybe it is time to try Android for your kid. Save $$$$. How old is your kid? Mine is 11. Been using Android only and have saved $$$$

Upgrade... no, what is the point? Apple's CPU have always been way ahead of the competition, point it yours can run almost everything. Keep in mind I got myself a certified refurbished 13.3" OLED Chromebook (Lenovo Duet 5) with 4GB and 128GB for $87 during Cyber Monday and this screen is better at watching movies.
