I did hit a screw and it broke a blade tip off the bit, but to be fair they specifically say they aren't meant for going through screws
Larger than this is what is rarely used and it gets you into hole saw range.
Spade style bits are in fact not made larger than this as the design and physics make them much to dangerous to use. Look on Amazon or anywhere and you will se no spade bits larger than 1 1/2". Jumping to larger sizes has you into boring bits and hole saws that can run $20 and well up.
It is nice that you want to contribute but do at least try to have some real understanding and knowledge as to what you are talking about. It just confuses people that may find tbe trying to figure out of the product is of value to them.

You now tell us now you shared an opinion but did not post it as one and stated your opinion as a general fact that applies to drill bits as you can see below. When stated like that it is misinformation and confusing as hell. The vast majority of drill bit use are in fact bits in these size ranges as my facts point out You did not share the fact that the bits would not be useful only for you in your very specific particular needs case. Your case is the outlier in drill bit use.
If someone with no knowledge of drill bits read you opinion disguised as fact they would be wildly misguided and confused and would assume these bits are of no use to anybody. They may have missed out on a very good deal on bits that would be very useful to them. You can share all the opinions you want but when they do not aligned with reality they need to be checked and i can have my say as well and share facts. When you opinions that appear as facts are so off the wall that they only confuse people you can post them but to what intent? Was the comment some ego or pride thing where you felt great need to express you use bits bigger than somebody else?
My statement is true that bits of this size are the most widely used and useful and your generalizations are false and misleading. If you need bigger that is fine and fact but how does that isolated and particular to you information help anybody else and what use is there in you posting it in a thread that has something that you do not need or use?
Here is what AI comes up with as to facts

You are confusing people and not helping anybody but I guess are free comment. I didn't say that you should not comment I only corrected your misinformation and ask that you maybe help the community and not confuse and misguide.

Here is what Lowes says about spade bits.
That has me even more confused as if you do use drill bits, hole saws and borers you should be quite aware that spade bits are only in these sizes. You can have an opinion that you would like them bigger and criticize and call them useless but the nature of metallurgy, physics and safety do not allow them to be bigger to meet your off the wall opinions.
