It's a possibility with the first 258V (32GB) laptop on sale now (Asus Vivobook S14) that I've seen!

I've got this laptop and it's great. I also have an Asus with 15.6" 3K 120Hz OLED and cannot decide which to make my main laptop!

EDIT: Open box (Excellent) is $773 available for pickup (near me) and shipping.

Is 258v a good cpu? What graphics does it have? If 32GB is the new 16, i should probably look into 64. I avoided buying a laptop with 16gb until 32 becomes standard. Now that it's more common in new laptops i feel like i want 64.
The only difference between the 256V and the 258V is the RAM. Everything else is the same.

What you do with the laptop has more to do with your RAM requirements than some blanket "32GB is the new 16" statement. For me, 16GB is more than enough.

16GB is the new 16GB, it's enough for most people. It's more so that lower specs like 8GB or 12GB are becoming less common. I think 16GB will remain the standard for a while. Even mac has made 16GB the standard on their macbooks.

That said, you can find sales on laptops with 32GB RAM regularly now if you need it.

258v is a good CPU. Will deliver good single core performance and great battery life. A bit worse in multi-core than the competition but the tradeoff for better battery life and thermals is worth it for most users, especially in the thin and light notebook category.

The integrated GPU is one of the best you can get without going to a dedicated GPU. Much better than the previous gen intel chips. The AMD Zen 5 chips iGPU is also on par. Both are noticeably better than the Snapdragon chips. This laptop will be fine for casual gaming and design work.

64GB is not an option with these new V-series CPUs.

As per Intels spec sheet , the ones ending in 6 (like 256V) support 16GB max.
The ones ending in 8 (like the 258V) support 32GB max.
That means 64GB is not an option with any of them .

Yeah, couldn't pass up the $773 price. That's a really good deal for this laptop

Yes, but it's one of the best IPS screens I've seen, rivaling OLED (which I have 2 OLED laptops). Watch any YT reviews for this laptop and they'll say the same. Upside is longer battery life and no "burn-in" (if that's even a thing nowadays).

Anybody have an opinion between this and the Yoga Slim 7x? I definitely see that the Intel chips, at least today, have much more broad and ensured support for software, but I'm curious as to everybody's thoughts. I bought the 7x but haven't picked it up yet.

What did you pay for the Slim 7x? That will help answer.

Why did you buy both or why do you need a backup laptop? My usual assumption on backup this or that is the person just has a compulsion but this case could be different?

My ASUS I bought mid 2024. It's 13th gen i9 with SODIMM memory and Ethernet with the OLED display. Battery life is 2-3 hours MAX. So this Yoga, with seemingly forever battery life, is attractive. After watching reviews, I had to check one out. Since then, I've sold 6 to clients and got the OB Excellent for myself. I still really like the ASUS though -- hard to give it up. I also have an ASUS w/Snapdragon X Plus and 3K OLED 120Hz that I tinker with. Got that for <$500 at BB.

I buy laptops like some people buy shoes. Big Grin
