I'm not a gamer myself, but this system is significantly more powerful than a Raspberry Pi without a doubt. There is a Linux distro called Batocera.Linux (https://batocera.org/) that is supposedly a turn-key solution for turning mini pc's like this into gaming consoles. Besides that, this comes with an apparently legit copy of Win 11 Pro as part of the $130 price tag.

Anyway, if your goal is retro gaming, a Raspberry Pi is smaller and more energy-efficient for these types of tasks, but honestly, once you add in a case, a good power supply (RPi's are picky with respect to power...), and storage, it is probably at the same price or even more than this $130 machine. But if you are interested in more modern gaming or more powerful emulation, this system would be better and give you more flexibility for future upgrades.
Fyi check out Reddit minipc forum, some users mention that these effectively have ZERO warranty.

Just saying buyers might want to read up.
N150 is a minor bump-up from N100

Everyone is discussing emulators, but I've been trying to find out if these can run Satisfactory (and also Minecraft) servers very well. Just a normal one with up to 4 simultaneous users. Anyone have any experience using these N processors as game servers? FYI: I know I would definitely have to bump up the RAM to at least 16 GB.
On a related note, the other type I've been trying to research, is if something as old as an 8th gen Core processor would also be able to work as this type of server. Thanks for any info.

Would this be good as a home theater streaming device?
I have this same mini pc running as a plex media server with DVR. My media is stored on a network drive. No problems streaming within or outside the home. I have also used it for basic functions such as youtube, and browsing with no issues.

Debatable, since TDP doesn't account for things like the power consumed at idle. If CPU-1 kicks out 200W of heat at full tilt but 5W at idle, that may be more efficient than CPU-2 that kicks out 150W at full tilt but idles at 20W. It's going to depend how much of the time your CPU spends in all these various states, as well as the other parts in there that make your CPU do CPU things--what if the motherboard for CPU-1 requires 50W to idle and the motherboard for CPU-2 requires 25W?

My stance remains that TDP is only really valuable for deciding how big of a heatsink to slap on something, and outside of that is just something for nerds to argue about.
You have provided ample evidence to win this debate korpo53. I thank you for it. I always say that I've never been "wrong" as I held a position based on what I knew at that moment. I have now learned from you (and a few others in this thread) and I have a new, refined position with more understanding of the topic. Again, I thank you for that! If only the public understood this with their politicians. I -want- them to change their minds if they are presented with compelling evidence to do so... but the voters say they "flip flop". ..sigh..

For those of you that do a full reinstall of Windows -- does Windows find all the drivers? When I reinstalled on a Beelink a year ago, I had devices that Windows could not find drivers for. So I had to download them from Beelink. And it was confusing because most of the instructions were in Chinese.

It kind of defeats the purpose of reinstalling.

Unless you specifically need Windows, you can wipe all preinstalled software and just install a Linux distro of your choice. Just as safe as any brand new system at that point. Could probably get a bit more performance out of it compared to a full fledged Windows 11 distribution too.
You can also install windows again at any time as your "license" is tied to the PC via microsoft online. You don't even need to enter a license key to reinstall should you want to go back to windows 11. I believe it would also activate for windows 10 as well, unless they changed that policy.

Got the 16GB version of this 2 weeks ago. The Ethernet port would randomly drop connection, but consistently. Restart was the only fix. I returned it after days of troubleshooting to no avail and found other people w similar issues on Reddit and forums. FYI.

Ended up paying a bit more and got a beelink and it's been great, for what it's worth.

is this the easiest way to set up a 'streaming box'? I'm so tired of paying the plethora of streaming service
my friend has a jailbroken Firestick that he pays a service for live streaming + every movie possible but the service is kind of laggy. also, what is the best way to start streaming for free on a Windows machine?

For sure, 16GB RAM is the *officially* supported amount according to Intel, but there are lots of reports of folks successfully using it with a 32GB stick, too. In my experience, it is not uncommon that a manufacturer cites certain specs, but in reality, other specs apply. For example, I have been able to install 2x the *officially* supported amount of RAM my last three Dell laptops. And same thing with a current HP desktop I have--the limit is supposedly 2x16GB=32GB, but 2x32GB=64GB actually works.Anyway, not saying that one should or should not do this--just commenting that plenty of folks have had success with it despite the *official* guidance.
Sure a motherboard can 'recognize' more RAM than what is supported by the CPU and chipset but the architecture of the CPU literally won't take advantage (and can't) of the additional RAM.

Alder Lake-N can recognize and use more than 16 GB. It's just not something Intel is willing to guarantee. They do this a lot.

BTW, it doesn't stop at 32 GB. 48 GB DDR5 SODIMM is on the market and can be used with Alder Lake-N. ODROID even advertises that for their H4. However, there could be speed/reliability issues.

The market has been preparing for the arrival of 64 GB DIMMs since late 2023, with motherboard makers adding support for them in advance. I don't know if/when we'll see a 64 GB DDR5 SODIMM stick, but if we do, maybe someone will get it running in single-channel with an N100 just for laughs.

Oh, it can actually use it, too, not just see it! The architecture of the N150 is not a limiter--it is derived from the 12th gen Alder Lake line, which can actually use 64GB/channel with DDR4 so up to 128GB in dual channel mode. For business reasons and to stratify their product offerings, Intel probably only validated it up to 16GB because this is positioned as a budget CPU. It would not make sense economically/business-wise to show their low-end product category as equivalent to mid- and high-end offerings...

Whatever the case, it does seem to be somewhat picky about what 32GB sticks (brand/model/specs) work versus those that do not. At least this is the case with its N100 predecessor. So if one is not willing to tinker, accepting the 16GB limit makes sense. But if you are daring and intrepid, 32GB also seems to function well if you have the right combination.
