The disposables don't get very hot for very long, and the cost is high per use. Still good for the convenience of disposable or to hand out to kids who won't bring a reusable home. Also they're slim enough to fit in gloves or socks.
The liquid snap kind got hot and are reusable but needed to be "recharged" by boiling and cooling. A chore. I liked them but there was overhead.
The Zippo lighter fluid kinds got very hot for very long but were a pain to start, and a constant faint odor of lighter fluid. Amazing when they worked.
I've finally switched to the USB chargeable units and they're great. Always the unsettling thought of a lithium battery powering a resistive heater and the hopefully distant risk of fire. But otherwise, a selectable temperature and a "battery remaining" indicator and it can also serve as a power bank?
Disposable has some advantages but imo the USB handwarmers are a big step up.

Great info - I tend to stick with the disposable and bring a bunch with me when I go to Pickleball open play on the weekends. I can give them to friends and not worry about sharing a reusable -- our courts are in the sun but the waiting area is normally quite brisk so we keep handwarmers in our bags as well as keeping our paddles warm during down time -- just a trick I learned
