I'm a former nuclear powered submarine electrician and currently manage the skilled groups for one of the world's largest and most prestigious automotive manufacturers. Inverters are nice but I'm not really concerned about conventional rotors/stators. Just cheap routine maintenance. Inverters are susceptible to their own issues with power electronics.

I have 3 ac as well. In emergency I have 1 of them on, good enough for me. Better than nothing

What are your thoughts on a non inverter trifuel with ~15% THD running refrigerators and other appliances? Am I risking too much? Would the $1k inverter premium for this unit save me from costly repairs? Interested in your thoughts on the conventional vs inverter. Thanks

From 23 ft away

GM10500XiT- Open Frame
Low Idle around 72 db's
High Idle around 75 db's

GM10500iETC/GM11000iETC (Same unit but Sam's Club get's the 11000iETC unit) Closed Frame
Low Idle around 62 db's
High Idle around 68 db's

I'm surprised no one's mentioned this yet. But Plus members do NOT get free shipping as the generator is considered a freight item. Someone please correct me who has a plus membership.

Inverters are overhyped. Probably the best advantage they have is being more fuel efficient but if you're installing a whole home standby, your priorities are convenience, not fuel efficiency.

I have the 10500 watt inverter from Genmax and works great! Better than having to pay up to $500 a year for full standby generator maintenance. Just keep the battery maintained and the oil full to the thread line.

Not sure about "Over-hyped". The main advantage is the "clean" power provided by the inverter. Steady power that will not damage some of the modern electronics out there. Traditional (non-inverter) generators are considered to have "dirty" power and could damage electronics. There is plenty of info on this on the internet. If you are going to use a traditional generator, an addition of something like the EG4 Chargeverter is a great product to use. Basically cleans up the power supply for you.

You will definitely need a soft starter. My 5 ton draws 14 amps running. I run two heat pumps, pool pump, septic pump, multiple servers, multiple tvs and audio systems, 2 refrigerators, hybrid water heater, ceiling fans and the entire smart house just fine off a 9k watt running generator without watching watts on anything.

I was considering this Genmax since its a good price but I'm not going to do it for these reasons. The Westinghouse with 5% off with Lowes card or Amazon Prime card is $1804, $54 more dollars with a 3 year warranty, bigger fuel tank and longer run time, and 500 more watts running power with higher peak/running amps as well. The only thing you lose is the ability to do natural gas and it has a different display panel. I think I prefer the Genmax display but I also like the fuel display on the Westinghouse you can see in the dark and the other helpful LED power meters from a glance. I'm sure you will find Westinghouse support much better since they are US based and I have contacted them a few times for my other Westinghouse generator. I'm not stunned by how good it was but it was good enough and the 3 year warranty is the minimum I would expect on a unit close to $2k. If you can't get it fixed its a very expensive paper weight and I'm betting that would be much easier with Westinghouse as well. Finally the last thing I like is the no-tool access and how the Westinghouse has a way for spilled fuel to run off the side of the generator while filling compared to it running down the tank and into the generator on the Genmax. You are not supposed to fill when running but lets be serious, who doesn't add a gallon or two without shutting these off? Oh, and good luck finding a real spec sheet for this generator on the Genmax website. Here are the exact specs for the Westinghouse.

Edit: Even better, I forgot I had a 10% off coupon from Lowes credit. Now that is slicker deal with this generator from Lowes. That coupon is around and good until the last week of Feb.
