Lowest price I've ever seen for a 2TB external SSD from a major manufacturer. However, some reviews on both Amazon* and Microcenter complain about slow transfer speeds after copying for a while. Possibly an overheating issue? Or poor cache? Anyway, if you plan on continually writing large data sets, test it before the return period is up.

* Note that some of the reviews on Amazon are for older models.

FYI this is QLC, doesn't offer encryption, and has no dust/water IP rating.

EDIT: One of the recent Micro Center reviews mentions issues with the use case outlined below (Game storage drive). FYI.

Looks like a great price for what it is.

I've never run my Steam or EA/Epic game library off of an external USB SSD Drive, but this seems like a great use case for this drive. Particularly if you are are still catching up on a backlog of games that are 2-5+ years old, which likely can't take advantage of NVMe SSD speeds anyway.

For the use case above, it's easier and cheaper than buying a 2.5" SSD or M.2 NVMe drive and installing it internally (provided you even have spare ports to begin with).

Got an X8 for this price 2 years ago and it ran fast for a few months then backups started taking forever and a backup finally failed to restore. Luckily the backup before it still worked (and I learned to set Macrium to permanently Verify images every damn' time). I still need to warranty it, finally found the box. Read you can't really destroy data on an SSD though, if someone really wants to undelete it there's not any easy consumer-level method of destruction since you can't hard-write the sectors like an HDD. May or may not actually do it. I know all manufacturers can have lemons, but wary on this brand now.

Ssd's have a finite amount of write for your data before they start to go bad. So backing up a drive to ssd isn't a good idea especially if it's a frequently large amount of data.
I've been backing up my C drive (~200GB) once a week for maybe a year or so and the TBW of the back up drive already surpasses the TBW of the main drive. Meaning the backup drive will eventually fail way before the main drive.

Yeah, I saw both deals and paying $20 extra for X10 pro seems well worth the price!

People worry too much about SSD write cycles.

Crucial doesn't share TBW ratings on their external drives, but even the most garbage of QLC drives are good for 200 DW. At 2TB, that's 400TB. Backing up 200 GB once a week means that the drive will be good for 38!! years.

And that's assuming you blindly do full drive backups. No differential backups or anything remotely smart...

Even if you wrote a full 2TB to the drive once a week, that's still four years on the shittiest 2TB drive that money can buy. And honestly, all of the drives I've killed from NAND degradation have failed at 2x or 3x the rated TBW.
