Ssd's have a finite amount of write for your data before they start to go bad. So backing up a drive to ssd isn't a good idea especially if it's a frequently large amount of data.
I've been backing up my C drive (~200GB) once a week for maybe a year or so and the TBW of the back up drive already surpasses the TBW of the main drive. Meaning the backup drive will eventually fail way before the main drive.
It depends on the backup method and intelligence of the backup software. If you are changing 200GB of data every week, that's a different story. I would highly recommend all to use "restic" for their personal backup needs, it restricts writes to the backup drive only to the changed data.

FYI this is QLC, doesn't offer encryption, and has no dust/water IP rating.

Good to know. I often drop my hard drive in sand before walking through the rain.

Seems to be for me, too. Add to cart and it changes to "Item not eligible for member pricing"

Backups shouldn't use much data unless your constantly swapping the data your storing on your main drive. They're incremental. They only back up the changes. Backing up my entire 512GB main drive doesn't usually write more than 1-2GB of data once the initial backup is complete.

Best Buy will price match with pickup only, but you can contact chat after a couple hours and change it to shipping. That's what I did.
