FYI, if you plan to use this as a hydration pack, the reservoir (water bladder) isn't included on the Talon like some other Osprey packs. And they're not super inexpensive. REI sells them but they're not on sale.

For that reason, I like the Osprey Raptor 14 better. It's only about $20 more at REI, but it's bigger (14 liters) and also includes the water bladder.

I have a Raptor 14 as well as a Talon 22. I'd say the Raptor is a better pack for stuff like mountain biking, and the Talon is fine for hiking, especially since I got the larger, 22 liter version. But honestly both packs are pretty versatile for hiking/biking.

Looks like there may be a new version. Anyone know the differences/improvements?

sag bags that pull back on your shoulders and get too hot. I went back to external frames because of high load capacity, space between back and pack and lots of weight carried on hips.

I have this, the Talon 22, and a 30L day pack. My Talon 11 is my go to daily carry bag. It's large enough to fit my outer layers, my 40oz bottle, glasses, sunblock, extra shoes, etc. Perfect day bag. Works even better when you pack with packing cubes.

I like this for a go to daily carry bag but don't need the waist straps/support, except for the rare occasion. Can they be easily tucked in or synched tight as to not feel it on your lower back??? TIA

Waist straps are also pockets. Not easily tucked away in the back, but possible.
