Just make sure you don't confuse this router with the GL-MT3000 (Beryl AX) one which is somewhat more powerful for VPN throughput, has a 2.5GbE WAN port, and Wifi 6 (AX) vs. Wifi 5 (AC).
This is a good travel router in it's own right for sub $50, but it might be limited compared to the other one depending on your use case.
yes, takes hotel wifi and any devices connected to router then share that signal. Can also take from cell phone (hot spot), or ethernet cable. great for groups/family traveling while waiting at airport, or cafe or in hotel. works off battery pack if no power nearby.
I initially thought this was the Beryl AX and was prepared to jump all over it. The AC version is still pretty good, and at least seems to support OpenWRT so will hopefully be supported even if/when Gl.iNet stops releasing firmware for it.

The feature set on this is pretty similar to the$35 Opal model [amazon.com], but it doesn't look like the Opal is OpenWRT compatible for whatever reason. There's supposedly still firmware support on the Opal until May 2026, so that may be an option to anyone that doesn't need/care about cutting-edge firmware support; or just want something to use in the meantime before jumping to a Wifi6/AX model. Other than the MicroSD card slot and USB 3.0 port, I don't see a whole lot of hardware differences between the Opal and (non-AX) Beryl.

Great call out. I did confuse it with the MT3000 I paid $70 during the flash sale the other day. Just ordered and cancelled this one in less than 2 minutes after reading your comment. Thanks Smilie

Edit: Still a great deal though

Right, I did and when I first saw this deal.

I picked up the mt-1300 for $20 on Amazon last year(renewed.)

Opal is based on a SiFlower SF19A28 SoC where the Beryl is Mediatek MT7621A. Neither one is going to be a ball of fire for VPN throughput compared to newer SoC's. Mediatek is much better supported in OpenWRT and the SiFlower SoC is just starting to get OpenWRT support in newer releases. Obviously, a little late as the Opal is several years old at this point.

Don't recommend this device, because i have the GL-MT3000 , i felt it hardware just not able to keep up with some simple network load. (it not even deliver full WiFi 6 speed with one device connect to it).

Looks like I will skip this one and wait for the beryl.

For my data point in the future, can this take hotel wifi and broadcast to its own network? Or does it have to be hardwired first (some hotels dont have hardwire).

Perfect timing... I don't really need AX for travel so this will do for me.
