I have these , and I've use them 3 times for 8 mile runs . I cannot , cannot get used to them . for reference I've used adidas ultra boosts which are not as thick . Is this a support thing ? When I've used them, I feel like my left hip starts to hurt a bit, any insight ?

Like Ultraboosts, these are not great for running (for almost anyone who is a runner, to play nice here.) Hoka is known for max cushioning, so you get this plodding on pillows type of feel with very low energy return. If you must run in them, they would maybe be good for like a recovery day, if at all.

Walking long distances, on your feet for hours a day, gym, these are great. Running, I would never.

Interesting, then why did REI have them in the running section? So maybe I got the road running version ?

No..it's silly marketing. UBs are also classed as running shoes. Any shoe with some foam and basic tech crammed in it can be called a running shoe. Hoka is becoming more of an athleisure brand now.

If you are running like 8milers, get something that gives you some propulsion and energy return, which should take some of that strain off your hips. Hokas also tend to have a lower drop than other brands, so sometimes that messes with your legs & joints.

Never women's sales, like ever. F$#& Hoka! Their advice for sizing men to woman's is entirely wrong too. I'm an 8 in women's (precisely 9.87" foot), they said, without equivocation, men's 9 would fit. Nope not even close. Enormous shoe! Absolutely incorrect information!
