Maybe laptop audio has come a long way and I'm missing out but these are absolutely don't sound like a toy and they get plenty loud. I hear you on the upgraded versions but these are widely known for being great budget speakers for day-to-day use and they sound great for Twitch, Youtube, Podcasts, etc. If you have a budget of $20 for an office setup these 2.0's will absolutely suffice.
Depends what you mean by decent. The built-in speakers on my Macbook Pro sound better, but that's a $1,500 laptop. My work-issued Dell's speakers sound like they're made from aluminum pull tabs and powered by a watch battery.
This is an inexpensive upgrade that makes a big difference. Also, because I'm using them at work, I like that they don't have a subwoofer. My desk is right next to my Executive Director's office, and I don't want to get noise complaints from her.
As always, it's about the right tool for the right job. If you expect an audiophile listening experience, or a home theater contender, you're going to be sorely disappointed. If you want compact, inexpensive speakers to improve crappy laptop built-ins, or a minimum viable product for a desktop with no built-ins, these are among your better options.

Bought one in 2019 and still have them today. Not bad under $20.
Respectfully disagree. 4.4w RMS = these things sound worse than decent laptop speakers. The "pro" version can be found used for about $10 more, I strongly recommend the upgrade. I'm not an audiophile, but these things really sounded like a toy, and maxed out at a pathetic volume.
RGB on the pro is a gimmick, but the sound quality and feature set are night and day. My purchase of this model is headed to goodwill.
the v3 is decent and still very affordable, im happy with them for basic desktop use. they have twice the power of these. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...UTF8&psc=1
i would skip the v2 and get the upgrade

I've got these, clearly these aren't intended for audiophiles but are nice podcast or for background work music listening. I grabbed them to replace the monitor speakers that sounded tinny. Critical music listeners have no options near this price point, these are what they are.
Multiple versions of these within the same price neighborhood. They're all attractive and have merely adequate performance but this appears to be least capable version. Others include the V2 (more power and USB-C capable connection ), V3 (possibly a bit more power and Bluetooth capability but still no battery).
These "Pebble 2.0 USB"should not be mistaked for the V2. They have less power and no USB-C out.

Got these for a few dollars more to use with the Mac Mini and they're far superior to those I had with an iMac..not audiophile by any means, but the compact design and reliability is worth the price..

I have three sets and all are deafening when on full volume. These speakers are also extremely "bassy", a quality of which I've rarely found in speakers of any type (car, home, soundbar, pc). Maybe I'm just old and don't know modern speakers but I'm surprised by this review.
