The seller is not a legitimate company. I ordered one of these months ago and they never shipped it. I contacted the actual company MSI and their support agreed with my conclusion. I eventually got my money back from PayPal.

It might have been a slightly different url that copied the site so it looked the same. This deal is from msi.com

Get the M482 7300/6400 with 1200 tbw for a few bucks more or the same price with the non-retail boxed version. Read/write speeds are meh at 5000/3000 r/w speeds for the m461 but still better than the cheaper 3000 w/r speeds alternatives.

QLC can perform well or it can perform badly. It just needs to have a good controller and firmware. I think for the most part people with Samsung EVO SSDs with QLC are pretty happy with them. I'm sure you can easily find TLC drives that have horrible performance in comparison.
The main problem with QLC is that the minor cost savings does not justify the dramatically worse performance and reliability.

If it was 30-50% cheaper, sure... But it's usually like $15 per TB cheaper.

Same thing with SMR hard drives. They're like 10% cheaper, but can slow to the point of taking DAYS to do large operations. Not worth it.

I think it's likely TBW is correlated with flash quality / actual P/E cycle rating, and data retention.

Or probably Samsung with "lifetime". I wouldn't trust either more than SSDs rated for 5 or 3 years.

I'm leaning towards "really bad product".

I was moving 1.5TB of data and running Windows Updates and downloading Steam games. It was being slow, so I left it and went to bed.

The next morning it had barely progressed.

I wiped Windows and started over. Same behavior. Benchmarked the drive -- it had QLC performance in a supposedly TLC drive.

The whole drive tested good though, so it wasn't a problematic drive.

TLDR I wasted 8 hours trying to save $15. Never again. TLC for life.

This, I wouldn't go as far as 30-50% cheaper but I want to see at least 20% price difference between the cheapest TLC and QLC for QLC to be worth the savings. Currently, it's around 10% or less.

I expect it can move existing data around. And there's also the overprovisioning area.
But it would still limit the spread of writes. Maybe similar to not using TRIM.

Most modern SSD microcontrollers implement algorithm to spread the writes to different memory chips, including relocating data to spread out the writes (e.g. https://www.mdpi.com/2076-3417/14/18/8186). Most SSD also overprovision ~10% space to further spread out the writes to mitigate near capacity issues. TBW is still a very important number to look at but should be evaluated in conjunction with the microcontroller+firmware quality, % overprovision, (and DRAM/HMB if available).
450TBW is still bad though for 2TB these days. That's lower than TBW of many 1TB SSD, and at $85, it's definitely not a great deal but for budget build casual use, it's fine and more than enough if the focus is to save a few bucks IMO.
