Straight Talk canceled my order but never refunded my payment. 4 calls to Straight Talk and one month later and I still had no refund. They actually told me that I had to take it up with PayPal. So I did. And then I had to wait a few weeks more while PayPal investigated. I got my refund but Straight Talk sat on my money that whole time.

The phone will automatically unlock after 60 days even if you don't renew your plan after 30 days.

"Phone unlocks after 2 months"
But doesn't require maintaining service beyond the prepaid 1 month?

Apologies, I'm sure this is repeated in every thread.
Yes, it's been mentioned in every ST, TW and TF thread since Verizon bought the TF brands in November 2021.

......Buy the phone, activate it (make sure auto-pay is off), keep it in drawer. After 2 months, phone is unlocked. Only the initial service plan is required for the unlock. No need to pay for second month. .....

I see the Motorola Moto G Power 5G is also listed as free with the same plan purchase. Is it worth considering over the A16 or not? Seems like the Moto G has 8GB ram vs 4GB on the A16. Been awhile since I've bought a phone so maybe there is something more obvious I'm missing?

The Moto G Power 5G 2024 has 8GB and has dual SIM (pSIM and eSIM), which makes it a decent phone at this price.
However Motorola provides limited upgrades, usually a year of OS and 2 years of security updates.
Samsung A16 5G is supposed to receive 6 years of updates (OS and security).

Moto UI vs Samsung UI, a matter of preference. I prefer Motos and got the G Power myself.
Moto also has gestures (chop/flashlight, twist/camera), FM radio, 3.5mm jack.

The deal runs through April something. You could get the other phone if you find you hate your choice. Never hurts to have a spare unlocked phone.

I know for sure iPhone will automatically unlock after 60 days, you don't need 2nd month service, Android however require to call customer service and request to unlock it, as far as I know this doesn't happen on the server side and you won't wake up one day with your phone unlock. Also if your line is disconnected customer service won't unlock your phone. In general unlocking an Android will be harder than iPhone.

I bought 2 Samsung A15 on the last deal a few months ago, also bought 2 iphone 13, only paid for the 1st months and all 4 phones unlocked automatically, no need to call customer service.

Used to be the case but not anymore with Android phones. Just put in a sim for a different company (even non-working) and phone reboots after a short pause and unlocks (day 61+). Done it with A13 A14 and A15. No need to call anyone.
