How's this looking to start a mid-range gaming build?

Could pair it with a new AMD RX7600 for $260 or nVidia RTX 3060 for around $280-$300 or get a RTX 3070 used on Ebay for $250-$300 and have a solid 1080p/1440p gaming rig. nod

Cool! Any advice if light VR is of interest with a quest 3s? I heard AMD GPU aren't as good as NVIDIA for VR

Not sure about nVIDIA vs AMD on VR but my son has an AMD Sapphire RX7600 GPU and plays Steam VR just fine.

This was $330 just a couple months ago. Looks like they swapped the memory out though. Still really good for pretty much a full build to get into the AM5 platform

Don't forget you will need a cpu cooler.

Incase you want to see the specs. This is the free m2. It is automatically added with the cpu.

Son currently has an old prebuilt with an i7-7700k and a 1080. Trying to modernize his pc a bit. Would this be a solid jump without losing anything? Likely sticking with the 1080 for a bit, til maybe Christmas. He plays VR and Valorant.

I'm not a HUGE benchmark chaser, but I'd imagine the 32GB RAM and a processor that's 5 years newer than the one in the machine right now is probably going to be a marked improvement.

Yes, different levels nowadays. It is not "high level" but it will manage whatever your son wants to play when you upgrade the 1080 (for Valorant and similars you are fine).

Pretty good, you can always sell the cpu and get a newer one after prices calm down.

I think Nvidia is better but really they are both pretty similar anymore and the cards have gotten fast enough they can run VR without issue.

Would an rx 6750 xt be better than the rx7600? Currently building one now and not sure which to go with.

According to this the 6750XT is faster. https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Com...vsm1845738

RDNA 2 vs RDNA 3.
