I had a friend who got scammed by buying a pair of AirPods from someone else. The best way I could tell that they are fake is if you have an original pair of AirPods Pro then you can try to fit the earbuds in your original case. From what I saw, even though they are really good replicas the dimensions aren't the same and won't fit in an original case. They'll fit but not sit right and won't charge.

How does one sanitize these? I'm not very comfortable using earbuds that were in some one else's ears.

Yeah Apple Store will gladly do it. I picked mine up tonight. Some scratches on case, but buds and tips looked clean. Will verify at Apple Store. Best Buy took down serial number of case (but not buds) told them I would come back if they're fake and they're like yeah we've caught 6 or 7 pairs in returns .

As for credit card I used an Amex platinum, but chase freedom is a no fee one with extended warranty

I just bought one and BBY offered AppleCare which I think it means they have not been activated before . I'll return it if it looks used /dirty

Mine came missing the M tips. It didn't have a purchase date on the apple warranty site so I signed in and entered today's date. So I got 1 year warranty from today.

I think I got fake ones. I can't tell diff between noise cancellation and transparency. And quality of my AirPods 1 seem better. It just came with a brown box and everything in there. The tip that connects to the AirPod from online images is fake. So they must of left the original charger and replaced the tips and actual headphones to fake

Yeah I can confirm. I have an original and a recently purchased fake with the latest chipset (i think it's the Huilian H2S). The easiest way to tell which is the fake is that it cannot seamlessly switch to an secondary iCloud device (tho it will be seen by it). The second obvious difference is that the battery life is way shittier on the fake
Physically I cannot tell them apart. However the fake case hinge isn't completely flush when closed (it's off by a fraction of a millimeter).
