I wouldn't let best buy install a speaker much less something connected to my ignition.

That's unfortunate, but I understand why some people would be hesitant and I probably just have been really lucky.

I've had multiple compustar, one idatastart, and one viper installed across 3 stores. Excellent, excellent jobs. Unfortunately for one store, one was a present for my mother so they had the pleasure of dealing with my father. Lifetime warranty on the labor so he's been in a few times for various things that I wouldn't consider faults of the installer. (Sorry, Nick!) Other than that, all have been flawless.
Oh, 4 stores— Nick moved.

I'm 50/50 though on mom and pop. 1st one back in late 90's was great, no issues. 2nd one about 8 years ago was a travesty. Told my wife they needed a spare key full-time for the install. Had it replaced a couple years later and the Best Buy guy laughed because the key didn't even have a transponder. 🤣

Bottom line is the <300 deals are stellar, and I have not been able to replicate anything close, DIY or mom and pop, when I factor in the quality of the systems and my time. Other people are probably more efficient / proficient than I am, but I do most of our vehicle maintenance and am no stranger to automotive electronics.
