They are positioned one pointing 90° left, one 45° left, one directly facing seating on left. Center is directly front of bar. Right mirrors the left. One Atmos speaker on top each side.
Then the surrounds each have 2 front facing speakers and one Atmos speaker.
Positions are 1 facing left, one facing directly behind towards bar, 1 Atmos facing up. Right mirrors left.
One subwoofer.
There you have it folks, an 11.1.4 sound bar with 15 actual speakers in 3 enclosures.
Like I said, you just gotta be smarter than the sound bar.
And I wasn't defending anything, just explaining to your birdness how there are actually all 11.1.4 speakers in there when the bird himself said there were 3.
Understand?
And you have clearly never heard this sound bar, it is one of if not the top rated sound bar out there. Like it or not, some folks need or just want a sound bar for either space constraints or aesthetics.
Either way, there are definitely positively 100% indubitably 15 speakers and a sub packed in this neat little package. And anyone with more than a bird brain knows that 15 is 12 more than 3, which is what you initially claimed genius. Now you are trying to make it about whether it sounds good or not.
No one cares if you think it sounds good (spoiler: it does sound good).

"Any suggestions for a better sounding set that is below $1000, including AVR? room size 20' x 22'."
120- Monoproce 12" sub
From here you have 2 different options.
You can get a nice 3 (left center right) setup. SVS/emotiva towers and add 2 rears later down the road
Or
Can do a nice 5 speaker polk, JBL, energy setup
Either way it will sound better than a 48" enclosure with 11 speakers in it.
The sub will be much cleaner
The response of the speakers will be much wider. You can run audyssey or other room correction software.
If you want more specifics quote me or DM me. Be happy to part specific parts
SVS is about to have their 40% off sale in 3 days as well
deals can be had as well. I picked up a pair of motion 35xtis for like 400 I believe.
If you go thru my first few messages my whole point was that them claiming 11.1.4 is bonkers. Didn't really knock anything else beyond that claim until I kept getting pressed by Samsung fanboys
You claimed that there are ONLY 3 speakers unless someone debunked that it's 15 actual speakers in 3 enclosures.. Care to explain that discrepancy? lol
Btw, did you ever listen to Q990D in person?
If I never witnessed or listened to a particular device/system, I will NOT comment on it as if it's no good. But, hey, that's me!

It's not the best setup, but it's a solid calibrated (YPAO) 5.1 setup with floorstanding speakers.
the Q990D is way better. It's not a small difference. It's a night and day difference. If I didn't hear it with my own ears I'd swear to you that this is impossible and there's no way those tiny tweeters can replace the sound of those huge discrete woofers on my floorstanding speakers. I'd also swear that this whole bouncing off the ceiling thing is stupid marketing bullcrap, but holy smokes it really does have directional sound that sounds like it's coming from above. How the hell does it do that when the whole setup is mounted only 4 feet off the floor?
I wasn't even in the market for a sound bar - I was happy with my av setup - I only purchased it for my parents. But now I'm going to put away my av system and buy another one for myself.
So respectfully, you need to listen to the setup yourself before you make the claims you're making.
So, are you saying for $600 (Q990C) or $700 (Q990D), you can get a much better sounding system and will look better too without running wires all around the room? Because, AFAIK, people who on these threads want to buy a soundbar and NOT have multiple speakers and wires all over the room. Capeesh?
PS: Please find a friend who has this system and listen to it before commenting on it further as it's futile, imho!
rtings: "The Samsung Q990D is excellent for movies. Its balanced sound gives all the punch and boom you need to feel sound effects, like explosions with gusto, without drowning out dialogue, which also sounds clear and natural. It also supports many common audio formats, including those on streaming platforms and Blu-rays, like Dolby Digital and Dolby Atmos. Thanks to its satellite speakers, it can create a wide and dimensional soundstage with sound effects that stretch into your space."

I bet this soundbar can get loud like many claim but based on the charts and freq responses on rtings they arent very good and loud doesn't mean good.
Don't feel the need to keep debating me
In any case, you are the one who is debating with lots of folks here when we clearly say that this is a great system at an unbelievable price. But, you want to keep reciting from your past experience and even I posted the rtings review you are nitpicking that the charts and freq responses aren't very good. I guess rtings have no clue either, right? smh
In any case, my last response to you as it's going nowhere! Have better things to do, unfortunately!

Long story short, the Samsung sound bar has significantly tighter bass and less distortion on the low end. Vocals are likely about the same. This is all at normal listening levels. If you crank the shit up that 100w+ per channel setup w/ 1000W+ sub is going to shake the house and annoy your neighbors more, but who the fark does that? I'd be divorced pretty quick.
If you want to go out and spend 5 figures on an audio setup I'm sure you can beat this sound bar. However, the footprint would be much larger. Lowering into the 4 figures it gets more difficult. I'm sure there is something under 10k that could beat it but once again you are talking about comparing something designed to fill a room with ugly black boxes and all the wire routing fun. Instead of something that just sits under your tv. I think you would be very hard pressed to find anything under the MSRP of $2k that can beat it. Samsung has economies of scale as all these Q series sound bars share a lot of components. Other companies don't have the volume or shared parts to complete at this price point, or anywhere near it TBH. It's reviewed as the best speaker bar you can buy for a reason.
