Just paid $27 more from Patagonia on sale for one of these after waiting for a slick deal for a while. Now I guess we'll have two.

Can this be worn like a backpack and does it fit under an airline seat or in the overhead?

Which airlines?

maybe a dumb question but when do you guys use a duffel bag? I have one but never used it. when I travel, I either bring a suitcase or a large hiking-styled backpack.

You're going to need to google the carry on requirements for which ever airlines you fly. This will fit most overheard in the USA and is too large to go under a seat.

If you like to shop when you travel, I usually carry a empty duffel in my suitcase. So during my return flight, I can make space by stuffing all the clothes to the duffel.

I bought a 49l Eagle Creek several years ago that has travelled international with me several times. I have never had a problem getting it stowed easily in overheads, and being softsided, will easily cram around whatever sorry excuse put their hardsided luggages in sideways and took up a ton of unnecessary room.

International flights tend to be smaller storage spaces than domestics.

This Patagonia is 40l. It should have no problem going in overheads.

And yes, it wears like a backpack if you want it to. I bought the Eagle Creek for the same reason but I never used the feature as I always have a backpack on me as my "personal item" for flights since it fits under seats without a problem.

I see. Do you mean on the return flight, the duffel would be outside of your suitcase, i.e., you'll then have to check in your suitcase or duffel?

I don't shop much so that use case isn't relevant for me. I do see people use duffels a lot for the pool. We usually use a small backpack, but I'm thinking of getting a duffel instead -- the one I have is 40L which is too big for this use case.

Yo. Just look at the pictures on the linked site. There is a woman wearing it as a backpack.
