For a premium tablet with 8 gen3, it's such a waste only 4 years security patches. So much talk of environment, focusing on trivial stuff as compared to the incredible amount of ewaste. The resources/materials in this tablet is obscene to throw it away in 4 years. Don't get me started on the billions of lithium batteries from airpods to led lights and hundreds more things all in landfills

They have a reputation of going back on their words. Don't trust what they say, trust what they DO. I've been burned twice by them in the last 3 years. Won't be trusting them until they have a proven track record.

*Motorola One 5G and yoga tab 13 if you want to do a quick google search and see how they screwed everyone.

It's way faster than Galaxy Tab A. Tab S is going to be more competitive and have functionality like DeX, but is more expensive.

Apple iPad models will outperform this, especially iPad Pro. But you are going to pay a lot more. Base iPad is going to boil down to what platform you prefer.

Android has sideloading, respecting the freedom to innovate, so I'd take this over a base iPad any day.

No SDcard slot - No Deal - Bummer; not really an upgrade from 12" Yoga Tab - What were they thinking?

Genuinely curious, not trying to start a fight. What do you need more space for on a tablet? My most space consuming use is downloaded shows and they typically only take about a gb/hour. Even for a week long trip I may at most download 20/30 GB of content. Do you store a media library locally?
Games and emulation can take up a lot of space

For this we only have Apple to blame, because Apple started the trend of high-end devices not having removable storage and not long after Android/Samsung followed suit. With both Apple and Samsung at higher price points and no removable storage, there is very little incentive for Lenovo to offer this in their premium models either. People who can afford the premium models tend to just go with cloud storage. It's the geeks and budget conscious who care and there are the lower end models like the P12 that do have microSD.

Google didn't help. They banned SD from their devices, then bought Motorola which "learned" to dump them as they got pawned off to Lenovo.

I can't fault Samsung, and consumers refuse to seek out Sony... despite having the best hardware, the lack of customers causes them to cut software support.

A few things to consider here while taking a purchase decision:

->This is equipped with SD 8 G3 which is last year's flagship SoC. This year's is SD Elite
-> Lenovo promised it would come with A15 out of the box and would get 3 OS upgrades however, they now have retracted from this, and the device comes with A14 OOB and the 3 OS updates would take you to A17 not A18
->Based on timeliness of security upgrades and OS upgrades, I would put Lenovo at the bottom of the list. They are just not good with it. Not sure if they had ever provided OS updates on time.

I recall being able to manually update an old galaxy tab when it was no longer getting updates, had to do it with my laptop but was possible. Shouldn't one be able to do the same?

Personally, I think 4 years is the cusp most people keep an item like a tablet.

Dex is very niche. Those who use it, love it. Though just like Bluetooth Spen debate, id say even less use Dex. Will Samsung kill it too? Probably, especially as Google wants android to be more capable - when? Who knows
