Maybe I'm missing something:
If you're going to buy this phone new/unlocked anyway, is this really that bad of a deal?
$36/mo for 3 years = $1300
Factoring in $36 (being what you'd have paid for the phone OOP) is the AT&T plan really that overpriced?
$60/mo plan with AT&T vs a $25 MVNO?
Given I prefer no contract or faux contract too, but if I'm for sure sticking with AT&T for 3 years this seems decent.
my case includes a family plan for price comparison, so maybe it's less economical for a single line
obviously this requires an eligible trade in to get max value, but this is a pretty high end phone. if this were one of those any smartphone or at least more expensive eligibility offers I'd be very tempted
I'm also ok with using a phone for 3 years. if you need the newest model every year I can see this is problematic. their "Next" plan or whatever for earlier upgrades might be viable though.

Nothing is wrong with that and it's not that overpriced to me if you're staying on att, postpaid generally have data priority over mvnos too if that factors in.

Exactly. Most companies spreading out, no interest, 36 months. Why pay for low tier unlimited prepaid plans when you can literally pay the same with AT&T when taking the free phone promo into consideration. If you wanna leave your not locked in. You can leave whenever you want . And guess what, there's no termination fees. And you get to pay off the phone you never paid for at a lower cost than what you would have paid in the beginning. People buying those cheap $100 android phones are the ones that don't understand

Bill credits is how they get you, you cannot leave anytime you want unless you are ok to pay the balance owed on the phone. In this case if you leave after one year , you will need to pay the balance on the phone ( $792).

If you're VERY CONFIDENT that you will stick with AT&T for 3 years, and you will have NO reason to switch (like a move to an area with crappy AT&T coverage) then yes, this is a good deal. However, it's usually not too difficult to get a very cheap or free phone with just a one or two year contract. To me, committing to 3 years is never worth it, but that's a personal stance.

I got a similar deal from verizon for s24, and guess what Im still on verizon! These deals are hard to beat! I guess there is some risk.

Not only that - carriers often have buyout deals if you switch where they will pay off some of your remaining balance. I know tmobile for example will buyout $650 per phone when you switch from ATT rn.

I couldn't clearly find a list of eligible trade-in models, but it would see that the list should be very generous(?). The only detail I could find is as follows [att.com], but perhaps someone has a more authoritative list of models which qualify for the following valuation (to earn the $1300 credit):
Quote :
Up to $1,300 max bill credit ($36.12/mo x 36 mos) when trading in a smartphone valued at or above $230 after condition assessment.
I'd add that at the same time AT&T is offering a promotional credit of $1000 for basically any Samsung device when traded in for the S25 Ultra:
Quote :
Up to $1,000 max bill credit ($27.78/mo x 36 mos) when trading in any Samsung Galaxy S, Note or Z Series any year, any condition, or a smartphone valued at $35 or above after condition assessment.
Unfortunately, I found that the S21, S22, and S23 all only appeared to qualify for the $1000 credit. The S24 was sufficient to receive the $1300 promotional valuation.

Good luck!
Jon

Samsung usually gives discounts. We saw the S24U go as low as ~700-ish without any trade in. Yes you need to wait but saving $600 without a trade in and no lock in is an excellent deal. Even if you decide to buy without any discounts day 1 of release, regular Visible is 20/mo currently. Sure, not apples to apples b/c of data prioritization but if it works for you, it saves you $45/mo or 1600+ over 3 years. For low usage people around WiFi all the time, the monthly cost is more like 10/mo (the plan is then nearly 2k cheaper over 3 yrs). Then add in AT&T activation, first month Visible referral bonus, and the fact that you lost the trade-in phone.

Here come the trolls to tell us were stupid for committing to 3 years of AT&T.
I'm on a family plan with 5 lines and a corporate discount which works out to $30 per line per month. We all get new phones every 3 years using these kinds of deals with billing credits. I bought a $16 Galaxy S4 on eBay and traded it in for $1000 in billing credits which covered a new S25 Plus then sold my Galaxy S22 on Facebook.
Sure I could make my family use old phones with worn out batteries, hop from MVNO to MVNO and save a little but I don't need to and don't want to. If this is what you want to do, great. I won't criticize you if that's what you choose.

How is this any different than the pre-order deal? It's the same thing. Not a slickdeal!
