CLEAR Plus Memberships automatically renew each year unless canceled and CLEAR will charge the applicable Membership fee to the Card CLEAR has on file.
American Express has no control over the application and/or approval process for CLEAR, and does not have access to any information provided to CLEAR by the Card Member or by CLEAR to the Card Member. American Express has no liability regarding the CLEAR program. If a Card Member's application is not approved by CLEAR, CLEAR will refund the charges. If the statement credit benefit has been applied before CLEAR refunds the charges, that statement credit will be reversed. Purchases by both the Basic Card Member and any Additional Card Members on the Card Account are eligible for statement credits. However, the total amount of statement credits for eligible purchases will not exceed $199 across all Cards on the Account per calendar year.
Please allow up to 6-8 weeks after a qualifying CLEAR transaction is charged to the Card Account for the statement credit to be posted to the Account. American Express relies on accurate transaction data to identify eligible CLEAR Plus purchases. If you do not see a credit for a qualifying purchase on your eligible Card after 8 weeks, please call the number on the back of your Card.

Last 3 times I travelled out of EWR, CLEAR took longer than TSA Pre. Unless it's free, I don't see the point of this, especially since they are always short staffed at EWR.
Sick bro
Clear is not worth it. TSA pre does the same thing but for cheaper plus its in far more locations and for $120 you get global entry which clear does not

Good thing I looked because apparently I paid for CLEAR last year! I thought it had lapsed.
I haven't found it to be that useful simply because my wife doesn't also have it, and it's not at every airport. Were it not for AMEX Platinum paying for it, I wouldn't have it now.

Clear + Pre/GE, which you get both credit for with the Amex Platinum card, is the way to go. I almost never have to wait in any type of line out of SFO and many other airports. Kids are free with your paid account, and up to 3 additional adults can be added for half price. So I have my spouse added for free using credit from another Amex card.
Clear w/ precheck lines have gotten horrible lately to the point that I only use the regular precheck lines now. Only time it saved me time was when I let my GE lapse and could not use precheck. Nice to have if its free but I would never tell anyone to spend money on it.

I agree. Clear sucks compared to my TSA pre and I have both.

Ymmv
I have clear+pre and the clear line is usually faster, but depends greatly on the airport
There are many times clear didn't save me any time compared to regular pre
If your Amex pays for it, then sure why not, but I don't think it's worth paying for it out of your own pocket

We had TSA Pre and now Global Entry with. Much faster for us than CLEAR
