In the end, AmEx will wipe out the $199 charge, just wondering if I will actually get the $75 Uber
If everyone has precheck then the regular lines become faster, and for free.
Thanks for the heads up OP - this was mostly an unused perk for my Plat card, but I'll sign up for a free $75 in Uber credit!

I fully agree with others that most of the time, CLEAR is not worth it. But the times that it is, boy is it clutch. Especially if you have an AMEX credit for it, it's a no-brainer.

Not actually true-- even if you're not saving time in line you still have a fundamentally different -and faster- security screening.... shoes, belt, and light jacked all stay on--- laptop doesn't have to come out of the bag, often you don't need to stand in the 360 scanner but just go through a normal metal detector, etc...
Also not actually true.
CLEAR after scanning your ID walks you to the front of the security screening checkpoint-- but doesn't change WHICH checkpoint you go to.... if you don't have precheck you just get to go to the front of the queue for the normal security screening--- if you DO have precheck you get to go to the front of the queue for the precheck security screening.
So they're complementary things.... in SOME airports it'll be quicker to do the CLEAR line to jump in front of the precheck line. In SOME airports it won't be any faster (maybe even slower if people are dumb there and get in the longer line over and over).
If you can only get ONE then for sure get precheck. But if you can get CLEAR for free might as well since once in a while it CAN save you notable time.
Same, I usually fly out of EWR and In most instances I've found TSA precheck quicker
