You need at least S23 series. S22 has poor battery and gets toasty under load. Performance isn't an issue with the S22. I had the S22U before upgrading 2 years ago. Cameras are fairly similar, with most of the ultras being garbage at capturing moving objects.

Software is meh. OneUI on Android 12, 13, 14 and 15 are pretty similar. Latest version doubles down on AI junk. Security patches are what to look out for.

Don't buy from this account, I bought one 2 days ago, and they sent a fake phone. The aspect ratio of the screen doesn't match the phone border. Avoid these scammers

Theme S22U is a great phone. I just upgraded to the S25U from the S22U and the only benefit I've seen outside of "ai" is the battery life on the s25u

The s22u has 10x zoom va 5x on s25u, Bluetooth spen that s25 doesn't, super slow mo that s25 doesn't, and a curved screen which I prefer.

The s25 has better specs but it's not noticeable improvements imo.

One thing I know for sure is the display in s22 is much better than S25. I am using s25plus, but I regret to upgrade from s22 plus. S25's screen looks washed out.

The complaints here about battery life are overblown IMO. It's not great, but I never need to charge midday unless I'm using 6+ hours of screen time, which is way too much haha.

For example, with 4 hours of screen time today I have 30% battery remaining.

Why is that? Shouldn't the s25 have a superior screen

I would expect this price for a phone this old with only 128 GB. Also, the S22 jumped the shark going from 12GB of RAM down to 8 GB. This is a decent phone, but the big gotcha on a phone this old is security updates which will end in about a year. So you can spend 300 for a phone that won't last long or you can trade in some old dumb phone to t-mobile and get 800-1,000 off the S25 Ultra which has 7 years of software updates. The ultra has an MSRP of $1,300. I went with Verizon for better international support and had to give them my wife's galaxy note 10+ which also has 12 GB of RAM.

The S25 defaults to a lower resolution just turn it up in the settings. This is common for Samsung devices. Also, you might want to adjust the brightness and maybe turn off eye comfort mode. I am really happy with the display. I just wish it was 4K for better video, but they haven't invented that yet.

This probably gets asked a lot but anyone have any thoughts on this vs S23/S24/S25 ultra? I'm seeing performance, comfort & size being possible downgrades according to people online. But the price has gotta be hard to beat
I would suggest to invest to get S24U at least, got it for $717 last year and it is the best phone I have ever had.
S25U is nice but I am so satisfied with S24U so I don't see the need to upgrade yet.

Wife upgraded to the S24. The camera hardware seems to be a bit worse, but the software and processing is loads better. Think Samsung puts their cost savings into lesser camera parts and makes up for it in software.
No, it was changed on purpose. The 10x zoom lens (which was a 10 megapixel sensor) was replaced with a 5x zoom lens with a 50 megapixel sensor.
This was to try and compete with Apple and Google at the 5x zoom level, which previously was a cropped image on the 3x lens.
The benefits of better 5x shots are all well and good, but the 10x zoom lens was the main selling point for me so it definitely feels like a nerf.

I'd opt for at least the S23 line. I feel it's pretty much peaked there and subsequent releases are minor tweaks to the casing and hardware to the device. Not to mention the 23 gets an extended update schedule.

Samsung explained that they are making the display color more accurate, but it does not convince me. I also have iPhones which have accurate color but the contrast is also great.

Did you compare with s22? When I first turned on the s25plus, I immediately feel the display is not as good as S25 plus. After I increased the display to full resolution, it is still not that great.

I've been an S22 Ultra user for the last few years now. The biggest advancement they made with the last two gens was the flat panel display. The curved edges of this phone is easily the most obnoxious thing.

I've never had an issue with battery life but I will say, it has degraded over the years (the same way you could expect of any daily driver device). From all of the reviews of Ultra models that came after the S22 series, the efficiency of the processors has helped with that a great deal. That being said, this thing still manages to impress iphone users I work with. They don't keep up with all of the latest and greatest devices on the market like I do so I take that with a grain of salt but it is also gratifying to feel like you are cutting edge when newer devices can't do half of what this can.

All of that being said, I had this phone for two weeks when I got out of my car and it got caught on my pocket when pulling out out, causing it to fall and have a small, battle noticeable crack on the top right edge of the screen. It was sickening when it happened. Despite having a tempered glass screen protector and premium Dbrand case, the point of contact was a tiny gap of screen between the protector and case. That tiny crack that is barely visible still haunts me to this day and cuts my trade in value with Samsung down to $300 instead of $600. If you really want to invest in the latest and greatest while not having to give up your current device, you can pay $300 for this phone and trade it in for the current Samsung value of $600 against the cost of a much better device. I consider that a pretty slick discount and would be tempted to pull the trigger for that exact purpose of I could know what the condition of the device was before buying. I don't see any information about whether the expected wear on the device could also mean minor cracks like on my device. If it was described as "excellent" or "like new", it would be a no brainer. Being described as "good" condition concerns me regarding screen burn in, battery health, and and minor damage to the front or back glass that could drastically decrease its trade in value.

Honestly, if you wanted a portable DeX device, this is a pretty awesome way to get it and another reason I'm considering placing an order. Also, if you don't know what Samsung DeX is and all of its many MANY useful/entertaining implementations, please do yourself a favor and look into it. Knowing about it and using it are two totally different things and I'm still blown away that I have family members who refuse to even try it. It is a ridiculously powerful way to expand the usefulness of Samsung devices that have it enabled and I'm a huge fan.

Hope this helps some folks

S23 is also significantly more expensive. S22 Ultra is a steal. If you set up some routines/tweak some settings, maybe turn on power saving mode, then the battery life is going to be more than enough for most people.

Just got s25 ultra vs my S22 ultra, S22 has better optical zoom at 10x+, at 100x, S22 is much better. S22 S Pen has bluetooth, enabling it to be used as remote shutter, S25 doesn't have remote feature (button on pen doesnt click). S25 feels faster, but battery life not as good as my S22 IF I account for battery degradation over the last 2 years, even when turning 120hz off and using medium resolution. Overall if I could get a new S22 ultra vs S25 ultra, I probably pick S22 ultra if price is significantly cheaper.

But some of you don't know what good battery is, bc you've used few phones. The iPhone 13 and higher, and many Android phones would kill the S22U easily.

To you good battery is probably charge every night, maybe 4hrs of screen usage. Good battery is getting through 2 shifts imo. You can do that with 13PM, Moto Edge 23+, Rog phone, oneplus 12/13, v60, etc.

The last Samsung with good battery was the S10+. The reason why endurance matters is to extend the useful life of the device, and reduce waste. Imagine how many would keep their current phone, if battery wasn't a concern. This could even apply to EVs.
I got my wife the iPhone 13 pro max and myself a s22 ultra when it first came out. I came from years of using Motorola and I can say the s22 ultra has a little less battery life but maybe it's because I use it a lot more. The Motorola kept freezing and the camera sucked same goes for the iPhone 13. My s22 is our go to when we take pictures, my wife regrets getting the iPhone 13. In the 3+ years of having my s22 its probably one of the best phones I've had.
