I was very close to buying these, or the smaller R100's, for my desktop computer last year, but I wasn't able to find much info on how they'd perform in a very nearfield setting like that. I ended up buying the Klipsch RP-500M II instead, paired with a subwoofer, and I'm pretty happy. I still wonder about the Polk's though...

I would imagine that the ring radiator tweeter would sound a lot nicer in the nearfield, given that they can be aimed just about perfectly. I've heard great things about the R100, which I'm not sure I'd even consider on my own personal desktop, but everyone has their own setup.

For a long time, I thought I would be building something myself. In the nearfield, maybe a kit with a smaller woofer like the DIYSG S2000. I ended up with a nice pair of headphones and an amp, and never went back to desktop speakers. Oh well.
