E85 = 15% ethanol dilution.

Ethanol gums up engines - this is why typical gasoline since the 2000s will brick your lawnmower - need to take apart carburetor and clean to get working again.

Using ethanol free gas (usually available at Sheets, Wawa, etc) is best for vehicles, lawnmowers, and everything else. Better MPG as well because gasoline is more energy dense than ethanol.

Ethanol is the reason engines need these cleaners in the first place.

Ethanol is to engines what high fructose corn syrup is to the human body; they both come from corn, heavily subsidized by our tax dollars.

It might. I'd skip it.
But, you may need evaporator cleaner as cheap try to fix the code.
If it will not address the issue then look for O2 sensors, likely to be replaced. You need to check for both before and after O2 sensors via OBD2 to see which one isn't good.
And the worst case CAT converter replacement.
If above are unknown for you then talk to trusted mechanic.

20 ounce bottles of the Concentrate Plus Fuel System cleaner are about the same price on Amazon for a 6 pack.

The OP's deal still ends up being $1 cheaper for the same 120oz.

You have engine related issues that are allowing allowing excessive amounts of oil into the combustion chamber...Fuel cleaner can't fix that.

Do I need to change the engine to fix the problem?

My accord has P0420 code. Will this help?
If it doesn't, I would give Cataclean a try. It's a little pricey but well worth it, IMO.

Is this needed if you stick to Shell Premium gas with all their advertised additives and detergents?

It's only "needed" if you have a problem.

It can be a layer of prevention from a clogged injector and some sensors. How much protection is impossible to really say.

I use it on the last fill up before each oil change. That way debris go into the oil about to be changed.

I live in CA where we have extreme fuel standards. My injectors have still clogged up. People cheat, stations sometimes get bad gas. Water can form. It happens.

i rather take my injectors off, 3d print a tpu (rubber like) adapter for the carburetor ($3.49) cleaner hose to injector, connect each to 12v source, and direct clean them instead.... under $5. and you will know for sure the spray pattern is good. While you have them out, take the ohms reading for all of them. ie, in my corolla they all read 14.1 ohms.

A friend of mine swears that this is useless if you use top tier gasoline (like shell, etc.) I use top tier gasoline and occasionally add these just in case.

i can swear by it too. i've been using regular 87 on my last two cars (accord and corolla)... they all made it past 350k, with the corolla at almost 400k till I had a misfire p301 two weeks ago. changed spark plugs, then coils, then tested compression (130 cylinder 1 with cylinder 2 the same, so healthy). so last thing after running a bottle of this same fuel additive was to clean them directly. Code is gone now.

Depends on if the stations cheat. I live in CA where "Top Tier" is basically state mandated. California has its own blend.

Gas stations here cheat. Injectors get clogged. It's not all their fault. Distributors can water down gas, swap octanes, etc.

I recommend using it on the last full tank cycle before changing oil. Then you start the fresh oil and filter with all the deposits going out with the old.
