Unfortunately t mobile charges $30 extra on phones (apple sells ip16 for 800 and t mobile for 830.
T mobile also asked for $35 connection charge.
This extra $65 surcharge makes it less appealing ☹️

On Android they'll unlock and you don't even need to speak to a person. I do a temporary unlock on my S24 Ultra all the time, so maybe it's an iPhone thing where it's not easy to do a temporary unlock.

Years ago, I think they offered temporary device on locks, but I haven't seen or asked for something like that in a while. I wouldn't trust a rep to give me an answer on this anymore.

They still do temp unlocks, I got a Pixel 9 PRO on a deal from a couple months ago, already did 2 30 day temporary unlocks on it
That's the whole point of giving you a discount. It's to entice the hardware discount so they can recoup the discount over time. There is always a give and take in business.
