You can go thru Costco or Sams club if youre a member. Saves you the $35 fee and you can earn up to a $100 gift card for upgrading.

Seems like Simple Choice does qualify and gets you up to $500 trade in value.
Unfortunately t mobile charges $30 extra on phones (apple sells ip16 for 800 and t mobile for 830.
T mobile also asked for $35 connection charge.
This extra $65 surcharge makes it less appealing ☹️

I do with we had the option to have the instant trade in credit be applied over xx of months instead of all at once. Might not be a big deal on one line, but with 4, the instant is about $900 for us. Would have rather had that split out like the promotional credit will be.
that makes NO sense- you would rather NOT have the money earlier? can think of no reason ever for that

Makes sense as I would prefer to have my bill lower for the next 24 months.

Bill is $40 more now on the free phones, because the credit is not separated out.

The credit is designed to be 24 months for a reason... They want to keep you as an active long-term T-Mobile user.

If they give you the discount up-front, then you could just leave...

Also, you're still not understanding how this works from a reporting perspective.

Apple is not handing the discounts out. They're selling these phones for full price. T-Mobile is the one giving credits back monthly for 24 months but the taxes STILL have to be paid when Apple sells the phones to any state that has a sales tax. Why would T-Mobile pay for this? Give me one good reason?

The tax liability for you is like $50 extra... If that's troubling for you, perhaps a new phone should be the least of your concerns. T-Mobile is doing just fine. Worth over $300 billion.

Ok you condescending 🤡

GTFO with your fake flexing. If you didn't care about $50 you wouldn't be on this app. 😂

I understand who pays and why, but it could be structured in such a way to retain the contractual obligations while doing away with the unnecessary sale tax. The end.

If they don't show the Full MSRP on the EIP agreement you sign, then there's no way for them to hold you to owing that if you break the contract. Huge risk for them, that they are not going to take.

I don't care about $50 when I'm getting a good deal... Everyone has to make money - including T-Mobile. So I'm perfectly fine with paying the $50 sales tax knowing I'm getting a good deal.

I could easily skip the sales tax by driving right to New Jersey and getting a lower rate... I don't care enough because not everything is worth saving $ on.

You are the one going rampant because you are upset you have to pay sales tax on the full MSRP because you somehow want T-Mobile to pay it for you... you don't make sense. Enough of the ghetto responses...

What do you mean "use Sam's Club to pay for the phone/tax"? They handed me the tablet and had me put in my CC number. If you have a CC from Sam's you can use that but I presume they only take major credit cards.

my guess is they are asking if they can use the sam's club gift card they get for buying this in club to pay the tax. I think this answer is no, because it takes a bit to get the gift card. From what I understand it is not handed to you while you are doing the paperwork.

Those who bought a cheap phone to trade in, did you have to actually add that EMEI to your Tmobile account/profile first before trading it in or you straight up just give the EMEI during the ordering process?

I dont think you need to add it to your account. As long as the trade in phone meets the criteria you are good.

OT: doesn't anyone know if trade-in in store at apple store vs online apple store has difference in value? TIA.
