You can go thru Costco or Sams club if youre a member. Saves you the $35 fee and you can earn up to a $100 gift card for upgrading.

Seems like Simple Choice does qualify and gets you up to $500 trade in value.
Unfortunately t mobile charges $30 extra on phones (apple sells ip16 for 800 and t mobile for 830.
T mobile also asked for $35 connection charge.
This extra $65 surcharge makes it less appealing ☹️

Legacy plans don't get the 16 for free. They're offering $500 with trade in on legacy plans for both the 16 and 16e. So it's a $200 difference
Ah, good point. Makes sense!

It works about half as well on legacy plans.
No where else was going to give me a 500 and 75 gift card for my iphone 13 with a half working battery though. Without losing my $30 unlimited plan......

128gb base storage is unacceptable in 2025. e-Sim is slightly annoying if you switch phones a lot and just want to pop sim card the new phone

Costco will give you the same deal. Does Apple charge you activation fee? I know Costco doesn't
Apple store price is $799 vs tmobile price is $829 at costco. Even if tmobile charge $35 at apple, max it will be $5 difference.
But buying at apple result a unlocked phone on day 1

11 pro

Instant credit was 150, rest was bill credit. Monthly was coming around $20.80 for 24 months

But I was told by Apple associate that phone will be locked for 24months so I didn't pull the trigger. If this is true then I will go with Costco for extra 100

No activation fee, but I was told phone will be locked till pay off which defeats my purpose of going with them.

Can anyone confirm if buying carrier financing will make phone locked to specific carrier?

It's a well known fact that if you want that "monthly device credit" (which is obviously much higher than direct from Apple) then you HAVE TO go with the carrier plan which automatically locks the device for whatever that carrier decides for duration!!
There is no "workaround" like going to Apple or Costco etc...lol
If T Mobile is going to give the trade in bill credit then it's going to be their policy and Apple or anybody on this planet can NOT bypass them 😬
This whole game is rigged in such a way that neither Apple nor T Mobile takes the actual loss, they recover the money from your monthly bill!!!
Which means, this deal is ONLY good for you if you are already their customer and are paying some reasonable amount per line per month. A new customer with high bill/line/month on a newer premium plan is going to get ripped off if you can do the basic math 😬🫣👍
Now, if you do think it's a good deal for you then you should go through Costco or Sams because they don't charge activation and also give you some store cash card like $100 or similar.

apple.com

Will my new iPhone be unlocked?
In most cases, yes. An iPhone purchased from apple.com is unlocked. Once your new iPhone is activated, it remains unlocked, which means you can use it with any network that provides service for iPhone. There are two exceptions: If you buy an iPhone with an AT&T Installment Plan, your iPhone will be locked to AT&T and will only work on the AT&T network for the term of your Installment Plan agreement. If you buy an iPhone through Boost Mobile Financing, it will be locked to Boost Mobile for the first 60 days after activation.

Decision is more around unlock phone vs $100 in pocket. I do travel out of country so local SIMs comes handy compared to T-Mobile roaming plans

If someone is OK with 2-yr locked phone, Costco is way to go....
Apple is also locked...how do you think tis different - same deal but costco saves you $135+

Can i buy at Costco, get the phone, activate it,but dont use it? Then switch back my pixel for two years?
I just want to trade in a iPhone 12 that my kids is using at home for games, no data plan needed, just wifi, which could be an upgrade for her
