$30 more for the made in Japan version
Does not work too well for basmati rice you would want to eat with south asian or middle easten food.
I have the fuzzy rice version and I love it.
The spouse hates it, they say it takes a long time to cook. My counter argument is that this appliance will keep the rice perfect for 12+ hours.
I also use the instant pot for a large quantity of rice, I have no complaints about that.
Also, whoever was hiding the basmati rice my whole life can ligma. Long grain white rice is simply the worst rice.

I have this rice cooker model and have used it for years. Until recently, the soldered internal coin battery (which keeps the clock and settings) have died and not easily replaceable. There are guides and videos on how to do it. Just want to let others know before they decide. The rice cooker still works if plugged, just won't keep the clock settings when unplugged.
I got the Japan-made NS-ZCC10 back in early January. Should've gotten one years ago. Way easier to avoid fast food or other unhealthy foods when rice is nice and easy.
Get the 25 pound bag of Jasmine rice (Thai Hom Mali) from Costco. Good stuff.
Not to be pedantic, but I see a price of $183 on this, which is $40+ more than the linked product.
Besides hopefully not breaking. :-D
If you are ok with minute rice and/or rice cooked on a pot/stove… then no, I'd imagine you wouldn't find paying a premium worth it.

Typically for pot over fire or cheap $20 cooker, you must wait 15-30 minutes after adding water to washed rice before starting the cooking cycle.
Also, delayed start, so you can set it up before sleeping for rice ready for breakfast.
The top end Japanese models $500+ can have programs for dozens of rice types, etc. Basically a perfect rice geek purchase.
That said, most will be fine with a $20 cooker as long as good rice and prep is used.
....
Also, the cheap rice cookers with a steel lid that isn't attached to the cooker is easier to use to cook stews with imo.
Cubed meats or portions of chicken, potatoes, onion, carrot, star anise, garlic powder, sesame oil, yellow rock candy or dash of sugar, pepper, unpeeled fresh eggs, water, soy sauce for an easy pot of stew.
Besides hopefully not breaking. :-D
I don't use "normie" in a derogatory way. But just about everyone in know eats uncle Ben's out of a bag. For those people a rice cooker like this is a total waste. It's slower and very expensive.
