It doesn't seem like fabs are the issue. In fact, due to soft demand, the major players have cut back NAND production. It happened around 2023, and it's happening again now. Current prices would probably be higher had YMTC not flooded the market. They're a Chinese manufacturer that's relatively new to the US market. Supposedly, some of their NAND (such as the 232-layer TLC) is pretty good.

I read an interesting comment questioning if some NAND producers could be in trouble. Companies like Kioxia and SanDisk (I think) don't have as many other products to fall back on like Samsung, Micron, and SK Hynix (which also make DRAM, among other things). I hope they don't get driven out of business or forced to merge.

I wouldn't be surprised if SSD prices begin to rise again, in the not too distant future.

Your probably to young to remember the 90s when memory and data hard drives were unaffordable do to some manufacturing issues and then the price fixing made it worse. The CPA was late to the game and it just made it worse.
