Maybe, but the current prices mean you pay near the same amount for smaller drives. For example they don't have a 12tb right now but the 14tb is $199 so two would cost near $400, right?

For many use cases small redundant drives are better. Many others need a single large drive. Many others Raid many 24tb drives.

Not for a cold storage you turn on and periodically make a full backup of a large data set, imo. You'd rather have one large drive with a large capacity, but of course any smart data preservation strategy wouldn't have your only copy on a single drive like this, so this could still be part of a solid backup strategy.

FYI this looks identical (based on product photos) and is an identical match according to the SKU number provided, to the B&H Photo deal last month (also $280 for 24TB external Seagate HDD) which contained a 24TB Exos Seagate CMR drive inside.

I was happy to discover after ordering one from the deal last month, that it contained an EXOS CMR drive, albeit a little disappointed in myself that I only ordered one and not a second.

You have more redundancy options with more drives, but with more drives it becomes the same, so you just want to maximize storage per price or avoid running out of rack space.

That all depends on the situation. Yes, redundancy/splitting data across multiple drives is better, but physical drive bays (if shucking for a NAS) becomes a limiting factor the larger your storage space needs are. There will be a point where you cannot physically fit any more smaller capacity drives in your system. Or it becomes impractical to have that many USB drives connected to your system.

Does anyone know what HDD is inside? I bought the 14TB Seagate for $150 from the Costco Black Friday deal. It's a white label and it recently died in my Synology NAS.

Exos drive is for enterprise servers, correct? Are they good for NAS? The problem with the white label drive I have is that the temperature is higher than the WD Red I have in the NAS. It seems like the power outage and high temperature killed that drive.

Fwiw, the highest capacity data center drives are now 32tb... the home consumer market has been left behind....with high prices and defacto monopoly (wd)

To add to others, I shucked two of these yesterday and they were exos drives. I couldn't find a video tutorial, but found the seam to be on the opposite side of the ports (which sends to be the opposite of the previous models)
