Yeah, need 3 D size batteries. Even the rechargeable Li ones cost $20.

800 lumens is an average 60w LED bulb (equivalent to the old 60w)

FYI, I just got mine in that I ordered before the price drop and the box says 400 lumens on high and 50 lumens on low. Hours are same.

I wonder if my AA-to-D adapters will work with this. One of my lanterns has a divot where the negative goes and doesn't allow the battery to make contact. I made literal tinfoil adapters, but they're a pain to use.

Also, 200lm is plenty bright for a lantern. I keep all of my other lanterns on low while walking about campsites; otherwise they reduce visibility. In the tent, I don't need high lm either. During power outages I also want longevity over brightness. 200lm sounds perfect for that.

Finally, I mainly use lanterns these days for evening (a few throughout the area when it starts to get dark), and at night (in the tent while preparing for bed). 99% of the time I also have a headlamp for everything else. Headlamps are just so much more useful.

Are you using the Eneloop AA NiMH or alkalines with the adapters? Also curious if it matters if you use NiMH or rechargeable lithium.

I've got this. It's been really handy during power outages. I haven't had to change the batteries once the past four years.

I use Eneloop NiMH. I would guess the only difference between all types would be run time.

Except it's a lot bigger than 2 bic lighters.During power outages it gives me enough light to get ready in the darkness in the bathroom and seeing in the living room. It's not intended to replace your lamp.

Eneloop licensed their name out and you never know what you are going to get. I have Eneloop from 15 years ago, before licensing, still work great.

Check out Costco. I picked up 2 Duracell lanterns. They are rechargeable and have a solar panel on the top. They were $9.97.
