Now all the reps at unlocking dept said I need 60 continuous days of active service in order to unlock it. Paid again on 5/3 and need to wait 29 more days. All 3 different reps I talked told me the same thing.
I doubt it, wait a day or 2. Pay for 2 months, and it should be unlocked typically the next day after buying the second month (assuming you're 60+ days past the initial activation). I'm basing that on actual experiences which means more than what ignorant TF employees say.

The common thing is 60 days pass, people see it doesn't unlock then within a day of buying the second month on day 61--63, it unlocks.

Did you add the extra month close to the 60 day timespan or right after the first month lapsed?
I added it at about day 35-38. They offered a discount since service had lapsed, so that was a nice bonus. So I'm at 60 day since initial activation, but only about 55ish days of actual service.

UPDATE: My 16e is now showing "No SIM Restrictions"

That didn't happen. After the initial activation, I checked on day 63. It was locked. I didn't pay for month 2. On day 63, I made another payment. On Day 64 its still locked and that's when I talked to unlocking dept. All reps asked me to wait for another 29 more days.
So the trick may be, you need to pay for 2nd month before the 60 days hit.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank sggfdaa

rep claims that the carrier is going through accounts and "correcting" the policy they fall under (i.e., supposedly, lines activated pre-4/1 will auto-unlock after 60 days???). not sure how true this is

Activated on 3/7, deactivated 4/6, reactivated 4/10 on the bronze plan. Unlocked today 5/5 after I restarted the phone. Weird, I was expecting this tomorrow. I haven't talked to anyone in CS about it.
Similar situation as you. Mine shows unlocked as of today.

So I think, as long as you pay for the 2nd month within the 60 day period, it will auto unlock once the 60 days have been passed.

Just checked and my 16e is unlocked showing 'No Sim restrictions' under Carrier Lock. I did purchase the 2nd month plan 2 weeks ago.

Well more ppl say otherwise than what's happening with yours. Common theme is wait a day or 2 after you pay for that second month. I'm not saying that's how it works for sure, but objectively it's the most common scenario. Hopefully for the rest of us, your experience is a one off/random issue. I'd reboot your phone day 2 after you renewed before getting too concerned tho

Activated on 3/6, deactivated 4/6, reactivated 4/15 on the cheapest plan. Checked this morning 5/6 and says No SiIM restrictions, Didn't restart the phone. Was expecting this tomorrow or later with restart. I haven't talked to anyone in CS about it. 👏😊

This is total BS. How can they do this bait and switch. I activated on 3/5 and mine is still locked. I did not pay for second month of service. So what do I do now try to find an agent who will unlock it or just pay for a second month?

Paying for the second month is the only way out. You can try to file a complaint and/or deal with unlimited CS calls/chats.

I would just pay the extra month. Straight talk has the worst customer service in the wireless game. You'll be endlessly frustrated. Even people filing FCC complaints are being refused at what seems to be at a high rate based on posts here and Reddit. I wanted to wait it out but it's just more time wasted. I think I will just buy a second month at $30. I have a big discount and the autopay discount which I'll stop right after paying.

So the bronze plan is good enough?

Also does this mean the timer starts all over again and I need to pay for this month and next month? How does that work? Ugh this is frustrating.
