As your only daily driver phone, get a genuine flagship like the iPhone 15 so you don't risk any frustrations with some of the (arguably unnecessarily) limited features of the 16e.

About the only material difference anyone could notice out of the box is the wireless charging functionality (MagSafe on the 15 vs. NOT MagSafe on the 16e). Of course, for 16e buyers this can functionally be fixed for most applications with an appropriate case selection. However, the (somewhat) unknown risks with the 16e are around residual valuation (what can you trade it for later?) and software support/software limiting by Apple (what features will be kept off the 16e?). Both of these recommend the iPhone 15.

Good luck!
Jon

This is important for those few users who benefit from mmWave 5G coverage (usually in dense urban areas). mmWave 5G functionality won't be supported in the new Apple modem chipset (so, by extension, neither will it be supported on the 16e; see here [phonearena.com]). This is of little practical interest to many users, but for those seeking bleeding edge network performance, once again the recommendation might be to stick to their traditional flagship iPhone models.

Good luck!

Don't be surprised if the in-house Apple modem has growing pains for the first couple of years with inferior performance compared to Qualcomm.modems.

If you ever want to sell them later, no one will want an old one (15) without AI, so I think the 15 is kind of useless now. 16e or 16. Only 15Pro and up can do Apple's AI stuff. How they will position the 16e for trade-ins remains to be seen. There the 15 might still have higher value as a "flagship" phone moving forward. But that's all speculation.

Sometimes you want 1-2 phones with card slots in the house because you want one SIM card to be able to move it to another phone to trigger an unlock or put in a hotspot or whatever. Anytime you deal with customer service to switch an eSIM you're out 1h of your time, switch it back another hour, it's a freakin hassle. With a physical card it takes 5 minutes. And yes, for another country sometimes still easier to get a physical card, though that is changing and improving.

why do people prefer Sim card over eSIM? Just for travel which requires it? More secure?

EIP makes the phone useless if you need a second esim.
If you buy and trade-in carrier EIP deals through Apple the phones come unlocked and you can add as many eSIMs as you want. They are financed and still under EIP, but factory unlocked. At least for T-Mobile, but I think that applies to all carriers if the phone comes directly from Apple.

Yes, this will be interesting to watch. You can check the modem frequencies here:
https://www.apple.com/iphone/cellular/

Battery efficiency might be better, that's why they claim so much better battery for 16e versus the others, but if the modem is any good we shall see. It's a risk for sure I would say.

We have Simple Choice. If done at Costco, the 16e comes out to about $60 after taxes here in California. (T-mobile giving $500 trade in and Costco giving $100 card)
Any deal for new tmobile customers at costco? Single line

Comes factory unlocked but gets locked to the first carrier you use, in this case it's t-mobile and remains so until all the installments are paid, meaning it will not allow to add sim from any other carrier like data Only eSim if you travel internationally.
