It's a thin film that's great for 2 things. Anti-reflection and the fingerprint reader.
My guess is most negative reviews are from people who didn't watch the install video or don't understand where this protector fits among others.
Tempered glass is great for drop/scratch protection but sucks with the fingerprint reader and takes away from the anti-reflecting screen.
The soft/wet install protectors (Zagg, etc.) are good for scratches and fingerprint reader but kind of ruin the anti-reflecting properties of the screen and they look a bit smudgy, plus aren't really meant for drop protection.
This plastic film type from Samsung is great if you want the screen to look and function as if there was no protector on, but you should probably use a solid case that protects the screen really well from drops. Once these get scratched, they don't "heal" like the soft ones, so you either leave it or replace it.
The install method is pretty great if you get it exactly right. I'd recommend watching the official Samsung video on YT to get an idea. It's really easy to mess up though. Also I had a weird line across the middle of my screen and was really bummed out as that was already the second one in the pack, but it completely disappeared by the next day. No joke, couldn't even tell it was there and then it was hard to even notice that there's a screen protector on the phone.
I'd also wager a lot of people leave a review when they see the line, only to realize the next day that it's gone and they don't bother updating.
It overpriced, even at sale price and this was the last screen protector I'll probably ever buy. Glass tech doesn't need it anymore
